Harder then I thought

I’ve been sober for about 5 days now. Today has been one of those days that I wanna give in and have a drink. It’s hard to do so, when most of your friends drink and so does your roommate. Gotta stay sober for myself and my kids.
Any advice on staying sober?

Think about tomorrow… How you going to feel… Is it worth it?

Hi @Tinydrea. Sorry you are having a tough time. Early recovery is so hard. Here are a few resources for you to check out. Stay strong!

@Tinydrea I highly recommend you find a recovery support group like AA or SMART. It will go a long way will teaching you the tools to deal with triggers, live a better life sober, and to meet people walking this same journey. I think white-knuckling it and doing it alone is much harder than it has to be.

I’ve never been to an AA meeting before. Mostly because I can’t admit that I am THAT bad. This is the first time I’ve even been sober, I thought it would be a lot easier.

I guess tonight will be the test for me. My friend just invited me to cripple Creek tonight. First time going, wish me luck

What do you think an alcoholic is? It might suprise you. AA is full of good people from all ages, races, backgrounds, education levels, and income classes. Going to meetings and working the program will send your recovery to the next level. There’s a lot more to it than just abstaining. Maybe order the Big Book online or ask for one at a meeting and read it to get a better idea of what it’s all about. The steps can be used for other goals, not just alcohol/drugs.

I love your sentence @Oliverjava that sobriety is not a life sentence. When I finally understood that my sobriety got much easier.

Amen Sister @Oliverjava  Making quality out of our sobriety lifestyle has do with our perception and not our circumstance. Think happy, be happy.
