Hello I'm new :)

Hi everyone, I’m brand new to all of this. I’m just aiming for a month with no booze which I have tried so many times and always failed. I don’t drink everyday but at least twice a week I’d say I get drunk. Like can barely remember going to bed drunk. When I think about it I’ve always had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I grew up with an alcoholic. Like liver failure style. I’m worried about myself and worried I’ll fail. Can anybody help me? I could do with any helpful tips. I find socialising hard I worry I’m not fun enough when I’m sober and drinking helps me relax in social situations. Any tips would be welcome thanks so much

Hi @Shazza26 and welcome!
You’ll find lots of support and help on here. Take some time to read through existing posts, you will learn so much about alcohol and our relationship with it, it may even change your view about drinking in the future.

Wishing you all the best and remember to take it one day at a time :purple_heart:

@Shazza26 you will find lots of people and posts here that you can relate to your story. I started out drinking the same way you describe and up until I quit would only drink on weekends and the occasional weeknight. But, over the years it turned into drinking copious amounts til I blacked out on those nights. After being sober for a month I still feel that alcohol improved my social skills, until I turned into a blithering idiot because I can’t control how much I consume. I can easily say that I would trade being referred to as a little socially awkward with being called that drunken idiot any day. I wish I could’ve recognized my problem in the earlier stages.

Anyway, sorry for going on and on. You’ve come to a good place. Read some posts, ask for advice, and check in regularly. You will find that it helps out a lot. Good luck!

Hi @Shazza26 and welcome! I would just say don’t focus too much on # of day goals, and always just focus on not drinking today. Also consider adding a Profile Picture and a bit about yourself. There are already a few “green S”'s already out here .

See my post:

Welcome! Great start coming here! This is a wonderful group of people full of support!

Thanks everyone yes @Sparky I just can’t control how much I drink. Once I start I just can’t stop! I would love to be able to just get tipsy!

Hi and welcome!

I guess the problem with being just tipsy is that that feeling lasts so briefly, and unless you keep on drinking more and more, you just get sober. So we keep chasing that “buzzed” and “tipsy” feeling but we can never reach it again after the initial feeling from the first drink, so we just get drunk. Very drunk.
