New to Sobriety

Hi there! I joined this community to find support on how to stay sober. I used to drink everyday & then cut back to weekends. I’ve been wanting to stop completely but my friends drink. I tried just wine, just beer, just vodka…it never worked. Always drank to blackout. I just cannot stop once I start.
My friends say they “don’t like sober Sheri” & “Come on, your not gonna stop”. Finally I’ve decided it’s time. Stop drinking & don’t give in! No matter what anyone says, I know what’s good for me!
I’m glad I found this group. It’s nice to know I’m not alone.

Welcome aboard. We will be here to cheer you on every time you need a pick me up. We will try to give you our best advice possible too. We are fighting the same disease as you so we understand how hard this is. Ok now the part you aren’t going to like to hear, I think your friends are an unhealthy choice for your sobriety at least for now. Maybe you will get their support in time but you are going to need to have supportive people in your life. I would recommend looking for a program to help you beat this. AA, NA, SMART or something along those lines. It’s amazing the connection you will find with other addicts because they know what you are facing. Stay strong an hold your head high.

Hi I’m new too. Your story us so familiar. I come from a family of addiction. Both parents addicted to heroin and took whatever they could lay their hands on.
My aunt an alcoholic, now sober.
My brother and sister are alcoholics, sister been sober for 4 years, my brother still struggling with the concept of his addiction.
My nickname is pringles, once I pop I can’t stop.
My friends also say drunk kay is fun kay. Trouble is I always went too far. I regretted every occasion.
I started with saying I will do dry January but secretly I want to stop and want the courage to tell my friends.
I hope you are doing well and have lots of support

Hi @Kay20! Welcome :two_hearts: I also can’t just have one drink. One is too many and a hundred is not enough. I want to congratulate you on deciding that enough is enough and admitting that you have a problem. That is a big step! As @Cwell says, your true friends will support you and the ones that only want ‘Pringles ‘ will fall away. I’m so glad that you are here with us my friend. One day at a time, together, we can do this :pray:t2::two_hearts:
