Minor things set me off into a full on panic attack. I’ve had them and been treated for them before–then quit treatment and drank to keep them at bay.

Withdrawal from anti anxiety/depression meds made me never want to go back on them again. I am going at this by changing my diet and exercising. I know 5 days in is early but good God this is hard. I feel like I’ve been working at being sober for months, not 5 days. Er, 5 and a half days 🙂

Yes it does get easier. It does feel like you have been trying to stay sober for forever at first and I used to get major panic attacks during the first few weeks. You just have to remind yourself that this is all normal behavior during early sobriety. When a panic attack hits me I just let it hit me and tell myself I’m gonna be okay and this is just my body readjusting back to a normal state of mind. 😃

In short, yes it does get easier. I would really recommend meditation to help with the panic attacks.. if you haven’t meditated before or don’t think it’s for you try a guided breathing meditation CD or yoga nidra on YouTube 😉

It is like some weird science experiment.
Life flies by when all you live for is booze.
You stop drinking.
Day one sober feels like a year.
Day two seems like 11 months, 3 weeks.
Etc.!
And then, after a month or so, a day feels like a day again, just a day where you get a shed load more done than ever before!
