5 Year Sober & Spiritual Realizations

So this happened on Friday. :star_struck: Another year sober is special to me. However, to hit half a decade is HUGE.

My life has changed dramatically since I made the decision to quit drinking alcohol. Over the years of watching others I loved struggle with it as well, I have understood more deeply the meaning behind wine and “spirits” with the blinders off.

There were definitely moments I had while under the influence that I am ashamed of. The “I can’t believe I did/said that. I would never do anything like that in my right mind. That is not who I am,” moments.

***Spiritual rant warning/Disclaimer: I am in no way condemning anyone for addiction. I have been there and understand how difficult it is. It is a slippery slope. This is just something I feel strongly about and feel compelled to share in hopes that it helps bring awareness to anyone that needs it.***

I do honestly believe that the “spirits” are a form of possessing your mind and body, putting you into autopilot in a way that is ungodly.

The demonic nature of addiction itself can grab ahold of you and sink its teeth into you to the point of causing a physical “pull” (aka withdrawls) so strongly that you go back to what you are trying to escape from. It is in essence, a literal form of subconscious possession.

Know that the devil does not want you at your best. He only wants to manipulate your mind and encourage you to be the worst version of yourself to do his dirty work.

But GOD… HE is forgiving and loving. He knows you are imperfect, but He loves and wants to see you at your best to spread love and GOODNESS (something we are fighting to protect in this world).

Don’t let society fool you into believing that things that bring you down are good for you and that things that elevate you to be your best for yourself and others are bad.

Addiction sucks. Sobriety is freeing. To no longer have chains pulling you down, no longer have a drunk monkey constantly dancing on your shoulder in the background being the third wheel in every moment and snapshot of time you have with your loved ones, that is freedom.

I pray that anyone struggling with addiction will know that if you trust in God when you feel weak, He can give you the strength to conquer any of those demons you may be fighting.

AMEN. :folded_hands: :folded_hands: :folded_hands:

It is going well! The last couple of years have been a challenge within my family, but I have been able to lean on my sobriety and it has helped a lot.

I’m so glad to hear you are staying strong! Sobriety is the best, and when you can get through those challenges without falling back it definitely feels validating of your own inner strength.
