A question for Scotts - not addiction related

I happened to mention to hubby that I heard on the radio that today is Robbie Burns day so he suggested we make some Scottish food for dinner.

Okay…even though I CAN make veggie haggis that is just not going to happen since I can’t start until after work.

So I need other suggestions. What else is “Scottish” that I can make…and bonus points if I can veganize it.

I did see cock-a-leekie soup and neeps and tatties which I could do…but I’m pretty sure my kids won’t eat (at least not the neeps).

Would potato leek soup be close enough???

Scottish salmon is always an option as is Scotch Pie. Shortbread for dessert. Guessing you probably won’t be a fan of black pudding. Leek and tattie soup is a fine choice.

Oooh. We did deep fried Mars bars last week for dessert. Didn’t even know it was Scottish. Though now that I think of it I think we did see it on a menu somewhere in the UK. We’ve always assumed it was very American since they seem to deep fry everyhing. LOL

Okay. I have “leek and tattie” soup (I always called it potato leek though). Oat cakes. Tattie scones (good thing my eldest is OBSESSED with all things potatoes). I could possibly do shortbread. I have made vegan shortbread before but it didn’t hold together for a cookie…but that was okay because it was supposed to be crumbled and made into a base for a squares recipe.

Keep em coming. :star_struck::woman_cook:t2:

Millionaire short bread?

You could wash it all down with Irn Bru if you can get it.

Got my Haggis here, going in the oven shortly served with Neeps, tatties and a peppercorn sauce since I can’t have whisky sauce.

I can’t really think of much else other than what has been suggested. Enjoy your Burns supper.

I wish I had thought of all this earlier. I could have either made my own haggis or bought one but I think I would have to search out where to get a veggie one. There is a Scottish restaurant that we love that has a vegetarian haggis but I suspect they will be PACKED tonight!!
