A year of recovery, free from drugs

Let me share my experience with you.

Today, I’m celebrating one full year in recovery, completely free from drugs, after 15 years of addiction to hashish, heroin, and crystal meth. I’m someone who experienced multiple relapses. I tried to quit twice before, but I failed. However, the third time was different.

I wish everyone complete recovery from all harmful habits and behaviors.

Thank you, God, for the blessing of recovery.

Congratulations! That is amazing work. Do you struggle with apathy and lethargy? Or do you feel like you are back to your normal self?

The apathy and lethargy slowly fade the longer you stay away from drugs. I also think it’s really important for someone in recovery to have goals and push themselves to actually work toward them. During addiction, life can become pretty random and unstructured, so you have to gradually leave that lifestyle behind.

At first, staying committed can be difficult, but little by little it becomes normal, and you start feeling like yourself again.

As for me, I’m currently getting ready to get married, and I’m also studying for a diploma in addiction treatment through ISSAC. Honestly, I feel like I’m back to my normal self now. But I’ll never forget that I’m an addict in recovery, so I know I always have to stay aware and be careful.
