Hi
Does anyone on this group go to AA and if so how are the meetings constructed?
I’m new to sobriety i’ve been drinking though dealing with sudden deaths of my Father and brother from accidents and enough is enough.
I’m fairly shy so worried about the structure of AA.
There are several formats. Speaker and Open Discussion are two popular ones. As you could guess, speaker is typically one person who gives a speech/story. Discussion is where one person speaks at a time about topics chosen by the chairperson.
I’ve been going to AA for 30 years now best move I ever made. Don’t be scared lift the phone someone will put you in touch with a meeting go along open mind just sit and listen your no longer alone.
Hi, I am 59 days sober today and it is my longest quit in 20 years and I feel down to AA in the most part, I attend meetings 2 or 3 times a week, they are great, you have the choice whether to just listen or to share whatever you like if you feel happy to do so, there is no pressure at all, the God thing bothered me at first but you can make up your own higher power and its good to think that the people you will meet there(always friendly and welcoming) fill that role to begin with, just go with an open mind, I am sure you won’t be disappointed
I love AA and go several times a week. Don’t be afraid to politely pass if you’re called on. I’ve seen that done several times now. No judgement within those walls for sure.
Watch out for 13th step
Don’t get into a romantic relationship or have sex with anyone there until you work the 12 steps and have a spiritual awakening <–reason for program.
Go to a meeting every day. Find a sponsor, call sponsor every day.
it will be an emotional rollercoaster, a lot of stuff you forgot will pop up, but don’t give up.
You never have to drink or drug again.
You never have to feel the way you feel again.
every meeting is different and no amount of preparation can get you ready for a meeting. Anything flies. You will laugh you will cry
But you won’t be alone
Well said Gale66 I to was lost but going to AA saved my life and that was a long time ago still go to meets , and sponsor the program is important part of recovery all the best
