So I’m 21 and have been a heavy drinker since I was 16. I’m looking for advice on quitting. Today is my starting day and I tend to turn to alcohol because I get bored while sitting at home and it’s a distraction for me. I start drinking as soon as I wake up. Any advice on ways to occupy my mind to help prevent from turning to alcohol?
I downloaded a sobriety app to try and help keep my mind busy. It has a spending calculator and according to it I’m spending over $3000 a year on alcohol. I never realized I was spending that much it hit me kind of hard I’m suddenly realizing just how bad off I am.
@Harley Welcome! There’s plenty of things you can do to occupy your mind. What hobbies do you enjoy? Go for long walks and get in touch with nature, go to a bookstore, hit up the gym, cook etc. The first week of sobriety can be challenging so listen to your body and rest when you need to rest, drink plenty of water only, eat healthy and try to stay calm. Congrats for taking this step. We are here for you. Stay strong my friend.
Well update I just got out of the ER. I don’t have a choice but to quit drinking now my body has taken a toll. I’m doing alright now I’m back at home but from drinking so much I’ve drained my body. Low on fluids and potassium and a few other things.
My advice since your so your so young figure out your life’s purpose. If there is a hobby or talent that you have naturally work on that .Volunteering in a soup kitchen or old folks home.Try to live a healthy lifestyle working out changing the way you eat getting more sleep…Its some much more to life than drinking…drinking destroyed my life…I don’t want to see anyone going through the pain I going through right now
