Advice on 4th step?

Hey y’all -

I’m getting ready to begin my fourth step. My sponsor told me to look around and figure out how I want to do it. Do any of you have suggestions for ways that were particularly meaningful or that you would have done differently?

And to you!

I have not read that chapter. In fact, I don’t have a copy of the 12 and 12. I’ll try to pick one up at my meeting tomorrow night. Thank you for the suggestion!

I just finished my 4th and 5th steps a couple weeks ago. My sponsor had a packet of about 30 questions about my past, relationships, offenses etc to help me along. What I ended up doing was basically writing out my life story as far back as I could remember including the major disappointments, events, offenses, wrong doings etc. Seemed to just work out beter that way. She gave me a month to finish and I’m glad that was it. It was an emotionally draining rough month. But I have noticed more and more freedom and relief as the days pass. Be brave, be honest, be vulnerable.

There is a saying, If you don’t do a 4th you’ll drink a 5th. It is extremely important to not intentionally leave anything out because you are scared or embarrassed.

As said by others you have 4 lists to make. Resentments (who wronged you), fears, who you wronged, and sex relations.

Carry a notebook with you so as things come to mind you can write them down.

Once you finish it you will feel a relief.

Good luck!

I am currently on my 4th step. My sponsor gave me worksheets to fill out. I think you can also find them online.

The way I started was to just list names of the people and institutions I thought about when I was drunk. Those conversations that got rehashed constantly in my head. But I had to start by putting pen to paper, I spent far too long procrastinating and obsessing over it. Blessings on your house.

Could I trouble you for the list of questions? I am struggling to make progress on step 4. I have some of those column worksheets, but I keep getting stuck.

I started with a history. I listed every act that I could think of from my past that led me to porn. Exposure as a child, desensitization, lustful behavior, sexually explicit actions by me or others, specific things I did to contribute toward it.

That was a good start of an inventory for step 4. I worked an Addiction Recovery Guide that was aimed specifically toward Pornography Addiction through the LDS Church. Not sure if other Step 4’s are the same.

Did it sound like this?

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
