Almost relapsed but made it

Hey there!! Im so glad u opened up about ur close call. Early recovery can be verrrry challenging as we navigate thru life sober.
First of all…

Congratulations on day 6 (Im guessing its maybe day 7 by now). Thats HUGE!

In early recovery, the urges and triggers come often (and least it did for me). But what made a HUGE difference is being proactive every morning. I developed a recovery morning routine. I found that if i set my mind to focus on all things recovery, first thing in the morning, it helped me stayed focused on that instead of my stinkin’ thinkin’.

Things i would do each morning were: prayer (if ur into that), recovery readings, checking in on TS and reading a bunch, meditation, eating a healthy meal, and then exercise. These things helped set the day for me.

The more proactive i was about my recovery, the less power those cravings and triggers had over me. And when they DID pop up, i had a better chance of working thru them.

Now at over 4 years clean and sober, i rarely get cravings. In fact that obsession to use has been removed. I do get triggered occasionally but its a fleeting thought. Maybe last a few seconds, then i brush it off. Just stay the course. Do what u can each day for ur recovery :purple_heart:

@Butterflymoonwoman nice to meet you!
4 years is huge!!!
Thank you, I am trying to keep myself busy during the weekend, was cleaning again today.
I don’t know why, I always hated it, but being sober cleaning makes me feel better.
Today it seems to be easier than yesterday.

Haha me too!!! I cleaned sooo much in early recovery that when everything was clean, id make a mess just to have something else to clean  I actually still enjoy cleaning to this day tho. I find my environment plays a big part in my mental health. Glad ur having an easier day

I find that the more you flex the sober muscle the stronger it becomes. Once you do something once that you thought you couldn’t do without a drink it becomes easier next time. Over the last while I’ve done things I never even knew you could do without a drink!

Thanks!
Past 2 days were easier to me actually.
Plus I am all about the numbers, I have a long weekend, Monday ( today) is a day off too.
So it has been a big thing not to go to the pub and have a pint. Which is never one pint for me.
I live on my own, so it makes it even harder.
I was just holding on idea that I am 8 days sober and don’t want to lose it.

Thank you for posting this question. I am back on day one, but I’ve looked at the answers here to your question. I am encouraged by what I’ve heard. So thank you, thank you, and thank you again for posting this.
