My family has a similar annual camping trip. The best feeling about it for me is I have to get up to pee less and I actually get to enjoy nature rather than be hung over. I hope you can get some more sleep tonight ![]()
wow, that sounds like an adventure ![]()
I’m glad you are home and can unwind. Hangoverfree, tired, all memories intact, that’s how really great adventures happen ![]()
Have a restful night friend.
Bears, tornado’s and drunks oh my! Girl no wonder you were still up. You have had quite an adventure. LOL - yup - this is one reunion noone will forget. Hope your cousin is ok ![]()
Hope you are able to rest up today.
On the car ride home now. What a chaotic 5.5days! Moreso than most reunions. Lock in this will be a long post.
Before we went up to the cabin we heard that my surrogate dad /cousin was drinking again after 3.5yrs sober. I came up not knowing how i could share my experience, strength and hope and boy oh boy did i get the chance to practice the 12step in a big way. My cousin detoxed at our family reunion over 3 days and was rarely left alone. We all took turns sitting with him. At one point his breathing was so shallow his skin got gray and his skin was cold to the touch on day 1. But luckily we had 2 doctors there and his sons and family.
Earlier i had prayed on the dock at sunrise for the guidance on when to speak and when to listen. His wife was up early and i asked if i could sit with her. It was then she showed me my cousin fallen on the floor reaking of booze at 6am.
Somehow her and i got him onto the bed and i talked to him in his delirium. It was exactly like i read in the big book “alcohol delirium” he was talking in circles and repeating himself. It was scary but i kept sharing there is hope and i spoke to him about the obession and how i can relate and what worked for me.
Two days later, after coordinating with his wife and sons we held an intervention. AND they asked me to facilitate it!! Somehow i subtlely guided him off to the deck for a conversation…he wanted a bite of his sons baked steak and i said the steaks on the deck. Holy shit ive never done an intervention before. It was intimate, he said no twice!!, but then the consequence was his wife wasnt coming home. A long, long silence and he said hed go!!! We all hugged. Watching all of those episodes of A&E Intervention paid off! I knew we had to get him to the car and not let too much time pass so he could change his mind. He wanted a bite of his sons steak and he was able to have it to go.
The treatment center said they had a bed at 8am but couldnt hold it. When my cousin showed up about 2hrs later they said they didnt have a bed!! Ive never asked if someone would pray with me but i felt compelled to ask his wife. We prayed that a bed became available and by some miracle he got one!!!
I called my sponsor after as that was very stressful, and emotional
So grateful you had someone to call and help you as well. This definitely sounds like a very intense weekend. Thank goodness you are sober and have such great tools to help in situations like this.
Thank God! Hope your cousin is able to stick with it and work on his recovery ![]()

This disease is insidious. Its insanity. King alcohol is cunning, baffling, and powerful. I fucking hate this disease
Dropping this wisdom one of my sober sisters shared today
Have Some Fun
Have some fun. Loosen up a bit. Enjoy life!
We do not have to be so somber and serious. We do not have to be so reflective, so critical, so bound up within ourselves and the rigid parameters others, and often ourselves, have placed around us.
This is life, not a funeral service. Have some fun with it. Enter into it. Participate. Experiment. Take a risk. Be spontaneous. Do not always be so concerned about doing it right, doing the appropriate thing.
Do not always be so concerned about what others will think or say. What they think and say are their issues not ours. Do not be so afraid of making a mistake. Do not be so fearful and proper. Do not inhibit yourself so much.
God did not intend us to be so inhibited, so restricted, so controlled. These repressive parameters are what other people have imposed on us, what we have allowed to be done to us.
We were created fully human. We were given emotions, desires, hopes, dreams, feelings. There is an alive, excited, fun-loving child in us somewhere! Let it come out! Let it come alive! Let it have some fun—not just for two hours on Saturday evening. Bring it with us, let it help us enjoy this gift of being alive, being fully human, and being who we are!
So many rules. So much shame we’ve lived with. It simply isn’t necessary. We have been brainwashed. It is time now to free ourselves, let ourselves go, and enter fully human into a full life.
Don’t worry. We will learn our lessons when necessary. We have learned discipline. We will not go awry. What will happen is that we will begin enjoying life. We will begin enjoying and experiencing our whole self. We can trust ourselves. We have boundaries now. We have our program for a foundation. We can afford to experiment and experience. We are in touch with ourselves and our Higher Power. We are being guided, but a frozen, inanimate object cannot be guided. It cannot even be moved.
Have some fun. Loosen up a bit. Break a few rules. We won’t be punished by God. We do not have to allow people to punish us. And we can stop punishing ourselves. As long as we’re here and alive, let’s begin to live.
Today, I will let myself have some fun with life. I will loosen up a bit, knowing I won’t crack and break. God, help me let go of my need to be so inhibited, proper, and repressed. Help me inject a big dose of life into myself by letting myself be fully alive and human.

Its 630am and i stayed home and skipped the gym to comfort my furbaby during a thunderstorm. Ill get back in the gym tomorrow!
My moms heart cath went as well as could be expected last friday. No stents. I decided to show up to wait with my dad even though my mom didnt want me coming up. Sdeing my dads face, i made the right call. Plus we got word she may be able to have her aeorta surgery thru a cath vs opening her chest! She seems super excited about it. Im kind of nervous as it was just approved by the FDA 2 months ago. And we’d have to wait until the hospital gets the Jena valve in Q1 2027. Prayers do work sometimes
The last month was a rollercoaster of emotions and i feel like im recovering this week. Maybe i should honor this feeling. I think i will…atleast for today.
