Anthem of the Day (Part 1)

Yes!! Love it.

I think Melvins are the band I have seen live the most, gotta be at least 5/6 times. I haven’t listened to them in ages tho, your post inspired me to play a few favourites this morning :+1:

And now for something completely different. Popular/best selling artists by English county of origin.

BTW, it’s been noted there’s no entry for Rutland.

It has always amazed me how such a small country has churned out such numerous, prolific, and quality artists for 60-70 years.

It actually reminded me of a debate a buddy of mine from college and I had once. Given that England is responsible for most of the important/influential artists in rock n roll history, we were trying to pin down: who was the most impactful/influential rock n roll artist to come out of the US?

We landed on either Elvis, the Beach Boys, or the Velvet Underground. Would be interested to hear the thoughts of others here!

Hendrix was a bit of a gray area in the debate, given he was American but found his fame originally in the UK.

For me, The Stooges.

Hmmm, what’s Rock and Roll really? And impact on what? Fats Domino? Little Richard? Chuck Berry? Elvis? Bill Haley? Staying with the 50’s here.

Yeah, and you could go further back than that even, Robert Johnson, wouldn’t have rock and roll without him really.

I grew up listening to every single one of these guys, and they all had an impact on my life. Music was my refuge.

Christ I feel like a moron for forgetting the likes of Bill Haley, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry :expressionless:

I grew up with the 60’s and early 70’s music my mum loved. First American influences I choose myself were the Ramones, Hendrix, Talking Heads. For me personally David Byrne over the years had a great influence on my overall music taste. But now I see he was born in Scotland and lived in Canada till he was 9…

Nirvana were important to me in that way. They were the catalyst for where my musical tastes are now.

Before I heard them, I was a typical late 90s/early 00s nu-metal kid…Korn, Limp Bizkit, and the like.

Heard Nirvana when I was about 12, and from there listened to their influences, then their influences influences, and so on.

I’m going to add in Aretha, Patti Smith and the two Kims (Deal and Gordon)

This is one of my long time favorite videos, filmed Feb 27, 2011, not the least of which is because of the music, speaking of Rock and Roll… … at least watch to minute 3:03, it’s quite emotional… let’s live our lives … with the high of nature, physical accomplishments, the great outdoors, Joy… not DOC’s

@Englishd I am mentioning you since you have been on some mountains lately

If I am ever reincarnated please bring me back where I can do this… I have done moguls yes, but this is different! Plus I know someone who did it. Love it
Love the Rock and Roll mixed in with it!

I’m still thinking about this rock and roll question and another one came to mind -

One of the first (if not the very first) to add electric guitar to gospel music, a pioneer.

You got me back thinking about it too friend. WTH is Rock 'n Roll. Loved the movie this song is from and its music so much when it came out. BTW, here’s another (rock) musician that died at 27 yo. But that’s another (rock music) subject right.

@Tito23 Good to see you, hope you’re good!
