Anthem of the Day (Part 1)

I feel the same way about your language :joy:
Some words are very similar, sometimes itā€™s an easy guess. Other times Iā€™m totally clueless about what you guys saying. Is Walpurgis celebrated in Netherlands too?

Well we have a lot of fun, Easter Witches, Walpurgis eve, Midsummer you should definitely try it :joy:

I started to write like a novel as an answer. But Iā€™ll try to keep it shirt. Theyā€™re singing in German, for what I know Germany celebrates Walpurgis too.

And theyā€™re actually singing about a Biblical Demon, Lilith. Thereā€™s something similar in Swedish Folklore but she doesnā€™t really belong in the Swedish celebration. From the Beginning Walpurgis was the Vikings celebrating spring.

Walpurgisnacht is the celebration of Saint Walpurgis which is a Christian day, it was a day that Christians converted Pagans over to Christianity and warded off witches and and it originates from Germany in 870 AD

To to me the video is a representation that Christians labeled pagans as evil people and demons, so in my opinion the video interprets the day well  I donā€™t celebrate Christian based holidays

But yes I do know its very widely celebrated in Scandinavia and Germany, just build your bon fire extra high to protect yourself from the evil spirits

Yeah they did like they used to do. Like they did with Lucia or Christmas for example.
Took something Pagan and made it sound or look like a Christian celebration. To somehow keep the peace, and find an explanation to what the heck we where doing :joy:

It didnā€™t get named or after the Saint until the 1400ā€™s here. And the Saint Valborg is from sometime around the 700, she had her own cult foe what I know.

But almost everything we celebrate here is a mix of Pagan, German and Catholic and Christian celebrations. So thereā€™s more then one story and explanation to everything :joy:

Oh and Iā€™m probably the evil spirit on my street :joy:

Unfortunately because of Covid-19 and very dry (but freaking cold) weather itā€™s forbidden to make any bonfires, gather for celebration or lit any fireworks this year.
