Posted the Big Black “Bad Penny” vid the other day. I first heard BB 6 or 7 years ago and didn’t quite “get it” but that song was great and has been in rotation ever since.
About a year ago, I revisited BB and they resonated with me a little more but still not quite. But I just couldn’t shake the feeling that “there’s something in here I like, it’s just not clicking yet”
Well other day after posting that vid, I tried again, this time going with their live album (that video and this one are actually from that) and it finally clicked with me. They actually sound better live too, aside from some mumbly lyrics.
I love objective listening. Some of my favorite stuff I hated at first but you stick with it and keep listening and eventually you get it…well, most of the time. I call it musical Stockholm Syndrome, lol.
1, 2…1, 2, fuck youuuu!
When I was at the street fair on Friday, one of the better record stores here (probably my 2nd favorite) that specializes in metal/punk/post-punk was nearby so I swung in. Wouldn’t you know it, had the live album (only BB album they had), and for cheap
I don’t know if anyone else listens to BBC Radio Six but I try to make a point of listening to Cerys Matthews on a Sunday as she always plays great stuff I’ve never heard before. She got behind Anna B Savage today, I think I can hear Jeff Buckley in this.
Thanks for introducing me to Cerys’ Radio 6 show Stephanie. Love it! This one came along in a cover version but I still like the original better. Listening to the whole album now. Still great.
Good morning Menno! You are so welcome and I’m really pleased. Ah Gerry Rafferty, can’t help but hum it in my mind everytime I see Baker Street on the tube.
