Queens of the Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf, 2002.
I see @RosaCanDo already beat me to it with QOTSA today!
I consider this to be the best straight-up rock and roll album of the millennium. The only thing on par with it is probably De-loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta, but that’s hardly straight-up rock.
Dave Grohl was brought in to drum on the studio recording and the initial tour - he really brings this one to the next level.
It’s a concept album meant to encapsulate a radio signal played on a drive through the high desert of California. I remember hearing it for the first time when it came out, I was a freshman in high school - a senior kid in school band with me picked me up and it was on in his car. I pedaled my bike 4 or 5 miles to the music store the next day to go get a copy, and I even got a QOTSA promo/tour poster out of it because I was friendly with the store manager. Wish I knew what happened to that.
Make no mistake, this is one that must be played LOUD.
You can put this album on and let it play through. “You Probably Couldn’t See for the Lights but You Were Staring Straight at Me” and “Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But…” Good tracks.
Thanks @beardson
Never a big fan of his. But listening to this now, 37 years later, it’s a bloody good song, cheesy and corny as it might be at the same time. Thanks for reminding me.
