Man this looks like a fun show. Realistically I think I like watching from home though, it would be pretty overstimulating ![]()
Maybe someday!
I “retired” from record collecting a few years ago and sold ~2/3 of my collection. It’s just gotten too expensive on principle. Used records cost what new ones used to cost, and new ones are $30+.
Well, a brief return to the game it seems. Finally, a repress of Alice In Chains’ self-titled (aka “Tripod”, final album w/ Layne Staley). Never repressed after its 1995 release and it’s been sitting on my “need” list for 15 years. So when I found out about a repress, there was only one thing to do.
Interesting listen for anyone who has dealt with addiction. Layne was in bad, bad shape when doing this one. I reads it explained pretty well the other day - “Facelift” and “Dirt” (their prior two albums) are about a man struggling with addiction. Tripod is sung by a man who has resigned himself to wallowing in the misery rather than continuing to fight it.
It’s dark, it’s gritty, and it’s my favorite thing they ever did.
Nearly 3 years later and it still rips my guts out that she’s no longer here. I still can’t think about her for too long or all that she endured.
Full show from sometime following the release of her 2nd album, when she was on top of the world. A bittersweet watch.
Such power, such presence, so much to give. There will never be another.
And my favorite from it.
