I listened to one chapter of “The Snow Child” this morning, and it’s not right for me right now. I needed more of a short, sharp shock, so I’m on with “The Bazaar of Bad Dreams” again until I need to slow things down. I always go back to his short stories until something else comes along.
Of course all of that can change in an instant 🙄

@SassyRocks I have 5 hours left in it and can’t wait for it to finish. 😄
Yesterday, my son’s girlfriend asked to borrow my signed and unopened copy of “The Testaments.” To everyone’s amazement in the room, I said, “Sure, here you go, just treat it well.” Books are for reading afterall. Im sure Maggie would want her books read and not stored in a cupboard. Was sidetracked by this while looking for the other book. This will do me the next few days…incase I get lost 😄

I understand the gift of a yet unread book…and your thought is wise, books are to share. I made a few past minute additions to Christmas gifting from my ‘library’…sending off a well loved copy of Gifts From The Sea to my daughter and an old Charles Bukowski I had kicking around to her partner.
Your newest book looks intriguing! I took a class in college in the 80s that sounds similar. Enjoy!!
I am savoring a Swedish novel called, ‘The Divorce’…interesting peek into another culture and a marriage and divorce.

The writer is new to me, while he died last summer. And this book is not smut, even though it has a lot of very candid descriptions of gay sex in it. I love it. Totally autobiographical, honest, open, no holding back. From the 1950’s in his youth, when he paid for sex, to the last years before his death. I think it’s great. And will finish it I am sure. It’s been a while I finished a literary work.

Listened to this podcast today. Very good. Its about a Nigerian woman who had her own human trafficking business going on. Using religion as a means to get what she wanted and drive fear into all the families involved. Definately worth a listen. It is very explicit and describes scenes prostitution, sex workers and animal sacrifices. No, its not the bible 🤔🙄

Loved “A Christmas Carol”.
Catching up on the DC Comics “Absolute" comics. I started with only “Absolute Batman" (which is fantastic btw), then “Absolute Wonderwoman", “Absolute Superman”, and now I am on "Absolute Martian Manhunter”. I have never cared about any DC heroes other than Batman, but there are some very fresh ideas in these runs so I am really enjoying them all. This is also my first time every reading comics as they are released and not years later when they have become classics and rereleased in graphic novel form. So it is kind of fun to be experiencing them while they are contemporary.
Also reading The Great Gatsby for the first time. I enjoy the humor and cleverness, but I’m not loving it yet in any more than a "trying to appreciate a classic” sort of way. I’m not very far in, though. I am sure it will grow on my when I get a bit further into the meat of it.
I am not sure what to read next. Stephen King is my comfort food author, so maybe I’ll finally get around to 11/22/63, which I have been saving for myself as I have been knocking out several of his less acclaimed books for the last few years.
I also have to get to "Shardik” by Richard Adams. I loved Watership Down and I have heard it is great (also referenced in a favorite King book of mine The Waste Lands”, but I’m not sure if I am motivated enough to dive into a book with its own fantasy world map. I have read plenty of books like that in the past, but they do usually require a level of commitment which I haven’t been feeling lately in my reading patterns.

Mila refuses to help decide which book to read next. She says every book would be fine and I should just start reading and giving her scratches.
So, I need your help. Which one should I read first?
1. Monstergott – Caroline Schmitt
Two siblings, lots of doubts, and a super strict religious community: rules, sermons, and plenty of eye-rolling, a personal rebellion quietly begins against a system that promises too much and demands even more.
2. Der Absturz – Eduard Lewis
Everything’s going fine – until it isn’t. A novel about a spectacular low, bad decisions, and the (not always graceful) attempts to piece life back together.
3. Lebensversicherung – Kathrin Bach
Life insurance sounds reassuring… until it sparks suspicion, secrets, and some very uncomfortable questions. Thrilling, surprising, and darkerly funny than you’d expect.

The author was one of my closest friends at one point in time. Reminds me of the adage to always be kind because you never know what the other person is going ( or has gone) through.
The book just published January 2026.
I was repeatedly sexually abused as a child and mentally abused as an adult.
The book makes a lot of my reaction to my stuff make more sense to me.
She wasn’t crazy and I wasn’t ( am not ) either
The book deals a lot with the patient/client therapeutic bond

Oh my! My favorite book is “over the edge, death in the grand canyon “. It is a Chronicle of all known fatalities in the Grand Canyon and what caused them. Being also botanically inclined.
