Reading Elly Griffiths THE STRANGER DIARIES. Excellent writing. Just finished Ruth Ware’s ONE BY ONE… the last third had me breathless.
Listened to this, and listening to it again.
WARNING - Not for people who can’t hear detailed tails of drug use.
But is a really informative look at why and how our brains work with regards to dopamine.
Written by someone who has been there and done it. It’s quite brutal and at times an open mind is required due to situations the author finds himself in may not agree with our perception but I found it a very good listen. Chapter two describes the Test Marches that I myself am doing as part of my recovery.
Chapter two starts to describe how our brain works through hormone and chemical release. Talks of what sets what off and why.
Later in the book is a detailed analysis of his own decent into heroin addiction.
As I said not for the faint hearted, but well worth a listen if you are interested in how and why addiction is linked to chemistry in our brains.
All that said. The guys tells a damn good story as well. Full of history.
Love life of animals (original title maybe Do animals fall in love?). Reading it with my daughter, but fun for adults too.
Just finished The Art of War by Sun Tzu. About to re read 1984 by George Orwell.
I love 1984, one of my favorites.
I have read SO much during Covid.
Recently read The Nickel Boys. Tough, but very good.
I bought these a few days ago, very very cheap.
Meditations- Marcus Aurelius
Power of now
12 Rules for Life
Now I am reading the Power of Now, it is simply amazing.
The titles are in Romanian
I am currently reading The Mothman Prophecies by John Keel. So far, it is definitely a thought provoking book.
How is Meditations? I’ve read some excerpts but never the whole book itself.
12 Rules for Life is on my list of things to read. I’ve heard good things about it.
I like it a lot. Make me cool down at the end of the day while still having some insightful metaphors and reflections.
@Piglet How’s Think like a Monk? I’ve heard the author on a podcast the other day and seems interesting, but I have so many things to read these days…
@Chiron how did you like the art of war? It’s on my list too but never bought it still. Good read?
I have found that certain books really help me through each day! I have recently read: Lucy Foley the guest list, Ruth ware, one by one, Shari Lapena someone we know, Ruth Ware turn of the key!
And next up is liane moriarty nine perfect strangers.
I loved it. I found it to be really interesting. I can see how, if someone studied it, they might be able to apply some of it to modern life. I definitely recommend it. It’s not that long.
Hi, I’ve only read the first couple of chapters so far but it seems thought-provoking. There are exercises as you go along so you need a pen and paper and it has heightened my awareness in a mindful way. I will let you know what I think as I get further into it.
