I liked her Year of Rest and Relaxation too.
My favorite fantasy series. A computer game was made out of it in the 90s. It was okay for the time, but really couldn’t hold a candle to the story in the books. If you like audio books, you can find audio versions on YouTube. You just have to look.
good to know, ill definitely be wanting to read more of hers after this
Okay so I can’t be the only one.
While I know lots of us don’t have much time to read. I absolutely love it. I’m a total nerd. Even when I’m traveling finding a used book store is one of my favorite things to do.
So show me what you’re reading…
Show me your books stores…
We can pick through and find our next good book.
Basically anything and everything book related.
I’ll go first.
I started this one tonight… recommended by a friend.
Digging into this one on a day off. It’s more sociological than a typical sobriety memoir. I’m reading about how cigarettes and alcohol were historically advertised and learning a lot. This book strengthens my resolve to not consume alcohol strictly because I don’t want to let advertising succeed in their tidy packaging of a harmful product. Happy sober Saturday all.
Holly started Tempest which is an online sobriety support forum with online meetings. Just FYI if you didn’t know that.
just realized she also wrote mcglue, which really surprises me cause i did not like mcglue (i didnt finish and thats kind of rare for me to do to a book) but i really enjoyed death in her hands, and will read the one you mentioned at some point.
I read this in two sittings. My (former) therapist advised me to read it. I just did and I’m severely shaken by it. It describes me, my sexuality, my problems with my sexual and gender identity, the problems I have with relationships, with trust, with addictions. It’s all there. I thought I was unique. I’m far from it.
The fact that I was sexually abused as a child was touched upon in 18 months of schema group therapy I just finished, but it was just not the right setting for it. So now I need to do some more therapy to finally deal with this too. This book was a good starting point.
One of the books that the book I just read refers to, is this one. I already had it in my posession and started it some time ago, but put it away again. I’m continuing to read it now.
Thank you! I haven’t checked that out yet but I will. More tools in the toolkit.
Mcglue was odd and not my favorite. She definitely writes about sadness and depression as one who has been in the trenches. Happy reading to you my sober friend.
I loved this book and found it very helpful as a re-connection to start to really process emotions. It talks about the feeling of emotions as a visceral connection. It is a good reminder to work past trauma to seek joy. I hope it helps you too.
Mno. Highly recommend a book called ‘the body keeps the score’.
Hahaha and here it is…duh. I didn’t see it to after. It’s a good one.
I started this one on my dinner break and am liking it so far. Odd back and forth format but good content.
@shilohRica Read Ender’s Game. I actually have it on my work desk. Also read Ready Player One and Ready Player Two. Both excellent books.
@TrustyBird Haven’t heard of that one! I’ll have to look at that.
@Chiron Sounds cool. I’ll check that out!
