A nice bit that I heard on the radio this morning. Derby day is like Cheltenham; steeped in tradition and protcol, but under the pretty hats and dresses, often monstrous drinking and behavior. Glad I don’t have to go to either anymore. At least the Derby is only one day.

Not interesting. Just heartbreaking.

This story is getting too common across the US. Fentanyl is in everything. It disgusts me. It’s one thing if people knowingly take it but it’s a whole other level when they have no idea. For those without addiction issues, days of going out and partying for a weekend are long gone.

A friend who’s an EMT downtown just made himself a bandolier sash with Narcan spray doses taped on with black electrical tape. He wears it when he’s off duty, partly just to spark conversation. The judgement and lack of empathy for the sufferers is palpable, especially when it gets hot here in the PNW. Mercy.

I live in Louisville, KY! Needless to say there were a lot of sober birthdays a week or so ago… :joy:

What I don’t understand is why phenyl is in the stuff? Is it intentional? What would be the motive?

It’s because it’s so cheap from labs in China. The drug dealers use it as an additive to cocaine, increasing volume which in turn makes them more money.

Regardless of them effectively killing off their markets/buyers? It’s hard for me to wrap my head around. So sad. Thanks, Lisa.

I know. It doesn’t make sense at all. This shit blows my mind.

What I don’t get is why it’s in weed? And even when weed is legal here already, at least a shop consumer’d know what’s (not) in it. F’ Fent.

Right! Why weed? It sickens me! Those doing the lacing need harsher sentences when there’s an overdose, even when the user survives.

This showed up in my morning news feed. It resonates with me: no big drama, just life as it happens. Compared sober vs drunk.

I found this an interesting article on sober weddings…including this comment that really nails it for me…

ā€œPeople that use drinking as their primary social lubricant or hobby have a different perspective of the world that almost hinders them,ā€ Dr. Lembke said, adding that ā€œthey only know a world in which people are using alcohol as a way to facilitate human connection.ā€

Interesting stuff (pun intended)

Recent local stories. It feels weird that ppl say that they aren’t going to downtown recovery meetings anymore, bc there’s too much drug use downtown. Addiction is so full of paradox…
