Baclofene does it work?

Hi I been going to AA meeting for fews months now and didn’t stay sober I read fews article talking about baclofene I’m thinking to try what do you think guys

My wife was abusing baclofen and gabapentin. Then began drinking with them. She was taking 6 to 10 20mg baclofen a day and 20 or more gabapentin. The director of her rehab said she had the worst detox they had ever seen. She’s been a pill addict for a long time but was clean until these medications came into our home.
I would advise avoiding them. She detoxed hard for 3 weeks.
They talk about stepping over bodies. I left for work stepping over her convulsing on the floor. Called the babysitter not 911 because it was at that point normal. She did nearly die at one point. She finally got help. Not a great road to walk.

I was struggling hard with benzo addiction for a long time. Baclofen works on the GABA receptors in a very similar way. I didn’t become addicted to benzos because they created a high, I became addicted to them because initially they helped me function much better during the day and helped me sleep at night. I never thought twice about taking it in the early years. It was prescribed and I followed my dosage religiously for a long time. Well, let me tell you about what would happen when I would try to not take it, to try to start applying my coping skills that I learned in thereapy… I couldn’t do anything. My body and brain needed the benzos to function. I would be absolutely crippled with anxiety and panic to the point of agoraphobia. This was exponentially worse than the symptoms that I was trying to relieve. But I kept taking them anyway. Or, I kept taking then BECAUSE of this. Eventually I found it easier to cheat and take more because my level of tolerance increased. This spiralled and I ended up buying them from sketchy websites from lord knows where. I couldn’t find enough on the streets.

Anything that has an effect on GABA is a dangerous road for anyone, but especially addicts/alcoholics. These things are prescribed so we, and non addicts as well, feel safe taking them. Then our addict brain eventually takes over and can lead to us abusing them because they feel safe and there isn’t a very obvious high or euphoria.

IF you decide to go this route, work with a doctor who is a specialist in addiction. ONLY work with this type of doctor. And be completely honest with the doctor about your dosage. I wouldn’t recomend this route, but I also only know my life and my experiences. My detox lasted just shy of 3 weeks, was medically assisted, and I ended up in an inpatient psychiatric facility for 11 days immediately following the end of the detox where I was put on another 3 day small rapid detox. Messing with GABA is messing with one of the most widely used systems in out minds and bodies.

Tread carefully, my friend.
