So I went out and when I start drinking I don’t have a stop button and I blew through 700 bucks at the bar on Saturday night. I don’t want to drink ever again because it just gets me in trouble with family and financially. I hope this community can really support me to staying sober. I don’t want to drunk ever again.
I can relate, I remember times when I went out as a very broke young student and ended up blacking out and spending everything I had, waking up with nothing left and unable to set limits. Getting drunk affects your ability to judge how much money it’s ok to spend too.
I feel like when you have this kind of relationship to alcohol it’s best to avoid situations where you’re vulnerable. Being out at a bar where you’re likely to put yourself at risk of spending money on drinks is a situation you might avoid like the plague right now, at least in the short term until you feel your drinking is more under control.
It’s also a good idea to keep a record of how much money you’re saving monthly/weekly/daily as a motivator to keep going, like positive reinforcement. And buy yourself little non-alcoholic treats every now and again as a reward and a reminder of the benefit of staying sober.
Thank you for the tips and everything. I’m happy I found this community app and everything. I plan on not drinking any alcoholic beverage ever again. I’m going to stay away from the bar totally and not put myself in that situation. And I like the saving money idea.
You got this! I had to give up some friends to achieve my goal … Life is to short to be stuck in a place you can’t get out of… You have to destroy that wall to be free because trust me … No one will but you!

Ive found this app helpful i joined around day 80 now im 112 days sober. I read maybe 2 or 3 times a day. Just depends on how im feeling. I used to spend $20 to $40 a day on alcohol, i agree a treat every now and then is a good visual reminder of the progress made. This app. Track how much money uve saved too.
