Book/Website/Podcasts that have helped you

So I’m delighted with myself to be 12 days sober. I was wondering if you guys could recommend any literature or podcasts that you feel have helped your sobriety journey.
Thanks and have a lovely sober Friday!

I am a huge podcast listener. The one that’s helped me the most, is The Jocko Podcast. It’s main message is how discipline has positive effects on our lives.

Russell Brand We Are Recovery

I’ve had a few “holy shit” moments listening to him and other addicts chat.

I wish he was still making them.

I just bought his book! Thanks!

I have it on my Kobo but haven’t read it yet.

I did also LOVE the book Guts by Kristen Johnson (Johnston?). Her story will scare the living shit out of anyone thinking they might have a drinking problem.

Ooooh gonna check it out now!

The One You Feed podcast.

It is life changing. It’s about addiction, habits, productivity, anxiety, depression. It’s NOT boring, or a downer. It’s empowering and uplifting.

They start off ever podcast with this…

A grandfather is talking with his grandson and he says there are two wolves inside of us which are always at battle.

One is a good wolf which represents things like kindness, bravery, and love. The other is a bad wolf, which represents things like greed, hatred, and fear.

The grandson stops and thinks about it for a second then he looks up at his grandfather and says, “Grandfather, which one wins?”

The grandfather quietly replies, “The one you feed.”

Meditations!! It’s 1800 years old Stoic philosophy and it’s a life changing guide for living.

Here is another thread on books. I added in the list of the books I have read, mostly memoirs, but I found them helpful in the early days and months.

(Anyone have suggestions for a good book to read?)

The Naked Mind. I read about it on here. Supee helpful and eye opening.

Dry by Augusten Burroughs. He doesn’t sugarcoat the addiction AT ALL, it’s filthy and terrifying and rings so true. I was never like him, for instance drinking at work, but the lies and the denial is totally like mine.

Oh, another book is Drink: The Intimate Relationship Between Women and Alcohol.

It is part memoir and part research. Very good.

The Big Book of AA, and a re-read of the Tao Te Ching (Stephen Mitchell’s translation).

The latter may not be for everyone. It’s helped me get centered through the years.
