I hear you. Open bottles got finished. My wife…she likes the sweet stuff. Took her so long to finish a bottle, sometimes it would actually go bad. I thought I was helping by finishing them for her. Wouldn’t want all those grapes to have “died in vain”.
So glad that it’s in the past. Absolutely no desire to drink, ever again.
Hahahaaaaa! That comment about grapes dying in vain has me rolling! My ridiculous justification was this: if I stay at the bar and keep drinking I’m contributing more tip money to Miss Gail (or Sean, or Joe). I really did love them bartenders, but COME ON!
I really did love over tipping them. The dive I went to had a lot of welfare and disability regulars and the bartenders were always nice, didn’t expect them to leave much, if any tip. I make really good money for where I live and it did make me feel really good to contribute to their income. The owner of the bar… He was a DICK and I’m glad he’s not getting my money anymore.
Thank you! My tolerance has increased lately. Up to almost two bottles on the weekend. It is my stress reliever so I need to find other ways to handle stress. I am going to miss my bottle tonight, Lol!!
I had Martini Friday on my shared calendar with my husband. I don’t know what was in that glass that triggered fights but it was like clockwork. Geez… that was reason #3 to stop the insanity.
Several bottles a week till I got my full time job with a typical schedule then it would be 1.5 bottles each night on the weekend. I’m sick of spending weekends hungover though and not keeping things up around my house. It causes stress during the week. I wake up with severe stomach pains sometimes and that is new. So far my liver enzymes are testing ok but I don’t care. It’s still time to get myself together. I feel very grateful if I haven’t done damage yet. I’m also one of those get drunk and turn into a blubbering mess about the personal things that upset me sooo that’s fun!
Oh boy, read my story several times on this thread. I was at a point that if I ONLY drank a bottle I was doing great! I tried to have only one in the house at a time. Then I would justify starting the evening with a couple of beers before I opened the wine. Then it morphed to include vodka, and who knows what else. I am 6 weeks free of that pattern tonight. Still not free of the desires, though. Every morning, however, I am PSYCHED to be free of hangovers.
My problem am a binge alcoholic so it be benders up to 10 days. So depending how much money I have or take from parents cabinet. Been whiskey one day, couple of bottles of wine, then brandy, vodka then back to wine. All different drinks for different days.
I’m not a big wine person, only because measuring wine is a lot easier than hard liquor/beer. If I drink a bottle of wine, it’s obvi that said bottle of wine is gone. Versus having a bunch of beer in the fridge…maybe I’ve had 3, maybe I’ve had 7, are you really going to math that?
That being said, I could easily drink a whole bottle. Whiiiich, usually wouldn’t have been enough anyway. I usually turned to the hard stuff.
I’ve put the money saved into a vacation fund. I figure I’ll have $3500 saved by my 1yr sober birthday. Plan to take my wife and daughter on a little early holiday vacation to celebrate, and thank them for all the patience, love and support. Then the money is going into a mutual fund.
Sadly…I’m not saving much money because we were making our own wine…from Costco kits. We worked it out once to about $1 a bottle. I’m actually spending MORE money now on non-alcoholic substitutes. Even mineral water costs more than what I spent on wine.
BUT, I am saving a bit on the lack of brandy and rye. I figure I’m only saving about $5 a day. Still, $5 is $5!! I don’t feel guilty about buying clothes. LOL
I’m only saving $10.00. I had realized that after the 1st glass or two, a $3.00 bottle of wine from the Great-Wal-of-China-Mart met “the need” as well as a $16 or $25 bottle from my local wineries. But as you wrote $10 is $10.
Have you looked at a sodastream to make your own non-alcoholic substitutes? I figured out that ROI on that little gem was pretty quick. Make my own, drink it plain or add a splash of POM, and I’m good to go. I also look at the “soft costs” associated with drinking, and they are legion. Lost time due to being passed out. Lost productivity due to being hung over.
Clothes…eh…I’ve yet to drop any weight (actually takes diet and exercise…who knew?) so no need to replace what fits and is serviceable.
