Build Me A Car - something fun I made up LOL

….At least there’s some yellow to match the car!

Ok, I’m headed to Albuquerque……

  1. Am I supposed to meet someone?

OR

  1. Am I going to get something to eat?

Remember my 0-60 is 20 seconds so it’s gonna take me a while

Whew! Now that I’m getting close to the meet-up, I’m a little nervous, but I know I have to do this. I’m so glad I have my compass with me since there’s no internet….

Since there’s no internet…what era/time/year am I in?

September 1964, the first production year for the Porsche 911.

Dang…now that’s cool!! I’m -5 years old but I like this journey

Ok……so I park at the meetup to meet this individual.

What is this place?

A grubby looking gas station and workshop on one side. And Molly’s 24h diner on the other.

lol. Thats a good picture. I am famished after that long drive so I’m gonna go into the diner and order some food….

As I’m eating…someone walks in and sits one over from me and orders a coffee….this is my exchange…

I grab a menu and slip the compass inside and slide it over to the stranger….

What happens next?

They tap the menu with a gloved hand, give you a nod and then get up and walk away.

Ha….as the stranger leaves the diner…I slowly open the menu, but instead of the compass…there was a note?!

Slowly I read the note……

“Behind you in the back left corner there is a booth. Go. Someone is waiting for you”

I look around and slowly get up. I head to the booth as directed. Someone is sitting there. Their back is to me….

I approach the booth and stand opposite of the person seated…they don’t look up but a hand is raised motioning me to sit….so carefully and quietly…I sit down….

Who is this person?? What do they want from me??

It took only a fraction of a second for surprise, incredulity and deep shock to set in…
I was staring at myself - my much older self.
In amongst the confusion of swirling thoughts tearing through my mind one oddly stood forward… “Does this me still have the Porsche?”

That is awesome! I had a little thought of that earlier! This is going to turn into the most amazing story!
@Chosen2001 thank you for starting this!
@AyBee great addition!

This is super fun! Somehow I came up with this in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep :rofl:

Ok…back to the story:

My brain moved way too fast to comprehend what was before me…before I could speak or move or produce another thought…I felt my body begin to fade….slow…gradual……almost disappearing. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out…the diner became dim…cloudy….My legs felt weak….my mind was being emptied….my soul transferring….nooooooo…wait I thought….

I finally made eye contact with my future self…and the last thing I remembered as my world went dark was his hand raised…and mouthing….”good-bye….”

I stood up….observed the quiet diner…hearing a few dishes colliding in the kitchen…the tired waitress pouring a cup of coffee for the seated patron…none had known of the transformation…none ever will….

I walked towards the door and out into the hot New Mexico desert sun. I stood motionless as to what was before me. It was only a few hundred feet away….I opened the door of my 911 Porsche….slipped into the drivers seat and started the engine….It’s what started this whole journey. A journey to where? What? I don’t know…but my gut tells me I must go on……

I start to pull away from the diner and then WTF!!
Banging on my window! Panic! “Wait!” “Stop!”

I slammed on the brakes and looked to see who it was….it was the waitress!! She motioned me to lower my window. I did. What the hell!? What’s going on?! I asked. Sir…I’m sorry….but you forgot this….

I looked down as she unfolded her hand…It was the compass….I looked at her in total amazement…she had no idea, but…how? I slowly reached for the compass and thanked her. She looked at me with kind eyes. I don’t know why but it happened before I could think and then blurted out…”come with me…”

What does the waitress do!!!

The waitress, I saw, had a name tag. “Sorrow” it read. She looked at me, nearly through me it seemed. Her kind eyes held my gaze, and I fell into them. Down through skies and clouds and waterfalls and birds.

I breathed in sharply, as if waking. Sorrow let her fingers linger against my palm. “You know where to go” she said, waited a beat and added “And I’ll be there with you”. She turned back to the diner. Four or fives steps away from the Porsche, she started to fade and in another step disappeared altogether.

The compass felt warm and heavy in my hand. I flipped the case over, and noticed, for the first time, the inscription on the back of it.

How about a tool box for a glove compartment with goggles in it as you drive the front windshield down

I brought the compass up to my eyes to read the small scratched-in words….

Find your way back

I looked up…puzzled. The sun started to decrease over the horizon. A cool air swept through my still opened window…I turned to look for Sorrow, but she was gone….

Now where I thought? I looked down at the compass in my hand…flipped it back over….the needle….the needle was pointing East :compass:

I pressed on the gas and headed back on to the road…heading East. Where though? How far? Too many questions for now….

Reaching for the radio and turning and turning and turning the knob until I heard Journey! A smile was revealed and I maxed the volume as I sped towards the sunset….I sang at the top of my lungs, feeling the rush of the Porsche racing over the desert landscape…the sun exposing a glorious glow of purples, blues and reds over the deep canvas sky. I felt so free! Not a care in the world!

With the joy of the moment and the adrenaline of excitement washing over me, I could not help but to think of Sorrow….

…and right next to that thought was another…a haunting one….

Find your way back

I quickly turned my attention back to the music and embraced the thrill before me….as I cruised I noticed a rusty sign along the road:

“177 miles to next exit - lodging”

What happens between now and my next exit? Do I get to the exit safe and find lodging?

Night comes on fast in the desert. An hour’s drive past the sign and it’s dark. The moon will rise soon, but for now it’s just my headlights and the stars. Millions of stars. That must be the Milky Way that looks like snow in the heavens. The Porsche is the only car on the road. On the south side of the highway, maybe a quarter mile off the road is a small shack and a fire burning inside or maybe a lantern is flickering in the open doorway. A figure stands in the doorway. A woman in a dress, her body outlined by the light. She raises her arms, in welcome? Or supplication?

The monster tires on the Porsche whine quietly on the pavement as I slow down, then crunch over the sand and rocks as I head off road toward the building and the woman.

I stopped several yards away from the woman…her hands still raised as if she were under arrest. I closely assessed the situation. My gut was calm.

I turned off the Porsche and got out…slowly, “Ma’m? Everything ok?”
She almost shrieked with excitement, “Yes, yes! Everything is fine! I just don’t see many cars come down this way. Especially such a fancy one like yours!”
“Thank you ma’m. It was…uh…, ‘custom built’

The woman seemed to be maybe in her late 60s. Grey hair tied tight in a bun. An apron wrapped around her waist with old stains. And a worn, but gentle face that displayed age and a content life. But her eyes. Her eyes were…kind. Like Sorrow! Coul…no. Can’t be. Ha…how silly!

“Well don’t just stand there! Come in! It’s getting cold and I have a fire to warm yourself by. Come on now…”

I hesitated for a second…but then followed her inside. The small abode was warm, cozy. Seemed she was the only one living here. The room was big enough to get around though. I made my way to a dark brown colored couch against one of the walls. There was one pillow, a red one leaning against one of the corners of the couch. I gingerly sat…my bottom making an instant imprint on a thin layer of dust. The woman was already making something in the kitchen area…which was not too far away….I kept looking and observing the oversized room. It was quaint.

But why was I here? What drew me to this woman in the middle of nowhere?

I looked up just in time to see that the woman was walking over to me, “I see you made yourself comfortable. Good. You must be tired? Well relax, I made us some tea and then we can talk a little. Does that sound ok?”

“Yes ma’m. Thank you.”
“Good. I’ll go check on the tea and be right back!”
“Ohhh ma’m! I didn’t catch your name?”
“Oh young man. I do apologize. Where are my manners?! Like I said…not too many folks come around this way anymore. Well, it’s nice to meet you. My name is……….
