Campral Tablets

I’ve been taking Campral 3x a day for close to 3 weeks. It seemed to really take care of the cravings at first, but as soon as I managed to relapse on it the first time, I’ve found that if I really want a drink, I’ve been powerless to the cravings.

What I’m wondering is, have I ruined it’s effectiveness/ chance of it helping me stay on track with my recovery, or is it now useless because I have drank on it?

Is anyone else taking Campral? How are you finding it? Any side effects? I find it’s certainly keeping me “regular” lol, in fact every night as soon as I eat dinner, I have to run to the toilet! But having IBS / bouts of constipation, it could be worse… (Sorry for the TMI!)

I think even though I’ve drank a few times on it, it’s still helped some what as it’s easier to stop again, rather than just keep drinking every day as I would have before it.

I’m taking Campral and asked that exact question when I was first recommended to take it…according to what I’ve been told by nurses and my doctor (also read a little about it via google etc) that if you drink whilst taking it, it has absolutely no effect. They of course recommend to not drink when on Campral, from what I have gathered and understood is that it helps with cravings soon after taking it…however it takes 6 months to year to help reset the chemical imbalance that makes us want alcohol. Id also suggest googling and asking your doctor to receive the correct information in case I’ve missed or misunderstood what I have been told. Hope this helps x
