The mountain road will be closed, I’ll have to go the long way around. It’s not far from me, 45 minutes over the mountain, maybe an hour going around. I’ve got a buddy that is from there, can steer me to meetings in the area. Or coffee shop and chat is good too!

I was literally just bitching about this same thing to my wife. We get emails from the school district, the school, then the app for the class, a separate site to book a conference on, and since I didn’t sign in early enough the passcode was no longer valid.
Had to use my wife’s phone where I had to go through 2 different sites to set up the conference. I only have the 1 in school so far and it’s only 1st fuckin grade!!

Why is night time so hard for us? Geesh!

I feel your pain. Mine is in 8th grade. I get daily emails from the school, the district and at least one teacher. Thankfully at this age I have my kiddo taking responsibility for her assignments and such so I didn’t sign up for the text messages. But that’s how the teachers communicate with the kids. Everything is done electronically at this point. My kid doesn’t even have textbooks anymore. All books are digital! It’s a totally different world than when I was last in school (20 years since I graduated college). Hang in there!

Really? All the text books are digital? That’s kind of crazy.

Might as well stay home and do schooling on a computer?

Some subjects do have the option to check out an actual book to bring home or use in class if they need it. But most kids don’t. They have smartboards (think digital chalkboard) in the classrooms that display the curriculum and the teacher has a smart pen that they can use to navigate the screens. It’s pretty impressive honestly. We have a fantastic school district to be fair. They just over communicate on some things in my opinion.

We actually tried that last year because of my daughter’s social anxiety and other issues. Texas has a free online virtual academy you can enroll your student in. There are actual accredited teachers for each subject. The classes met virtually via a program you download onto your computer. The teacher teachea the lessons via a power point slide show basically and the kids can ask questions via a real time chat function. Not sure I’m explaining that well. Anyway - it really didn’t work for us because she needs interaction etc. But for some families it works.

I’m about 15 minutes away from calling it a night. At 9pm. Gosh I’m officially old now I guess.

Yeah I understand. It’s difficult. Here in Canada huge classes, not enough teachers and staff support, special needs children, etc.

I feel you.

I’m actually very pleased with the accommodations my daughter’s school has put in place this year as she has transitioned back to a traditional schooling environment. They have gone above and beyond to work with us regarding her anxiety & depression as we sort things out with counseling and doctors. She’s missed quite a bit of school already this year but they aren’t giving us a hard time about it. We’re blessed to have enough teachers and lots of resources where we live. BTW - Canada :maple_leaf: is one of my favorite places on the PLANET!! We honeymooned in PEI, spent our 5th wedding anniversary in the Victoria BC are and our 15th anniversary in Banff and surrounding areas. We love Canada in July!

Yes it is great here. My daughter goes to a Provincial School for the Deaf. They have all the services and resources needed. So important. She’s graduating next semester.

I never had the resources available to me as a Deaf child. Very grateful.

Awesomeness!!!

Ooohhh yesss. Nothing pushes my buttons more than all the apps and crap. I miss paper homework, pens, highlighters and plain notebooks to make notes in. Do they still make binders and textbooks? :unamused: I don’t like this kind of change. Everything is done on a screen now.

My daughter’s school requires a binder and individual notebooks for each class. They still do folders and such. But pretty much all the curriculum is digital. All the class notes are available and most of her assignments are done/turned in on Google Classroom. Which I didn’t even know was a thing until this year. It’s crazy.

Our middle and high school gives out iPads now… they no longer give textbooks.

I remember in Nursing school the teachers saying… if you don’t like constant change, then the healthcare field isn’t for you. K…
Got it… but I need tangible things to study. Not brightly lit iPads to scroll through.
