This is my second vacation in sobriety. It is so much more relaxing to be enjoying the place, the company, and the break from work without the concerns about alcohol. No decision-making about when to start, how much to have, how to stay safe, how to recover….

And to be active! I paddled a kayak all over the lake at 4 pm with a clear head. I’m strong and safe and able to really enjoy the views. I’m not sloppy and scary.

Then came a lovely dinner and early to bed with a good book. 10 hours of excellent sleep and now this beautiful sunrise with my coffee and without a hangover.

Yes, I had a vacation craving yesterday for a barrel of wine, but then I went on to do other things. I know I don’t really want it and the pain that comes with it. So I kissed that craving goodbye. And good riddance!

If it weren’t for the learning I’ve done in this community and from other sources I would still be battling it every hour. I’m truly grateful to be free!

I face another day with my sweetie in this beautiful place with a clear head and a happy heart. I wish you all peace and I encourage all of you to keep strong out of love for yourselves and the joy that comes in being free from the pain of addiction.

Day 6, 6:42am

Couldn’t sleep a wink. Took a melatonin/cbd with no luck. It sucks because I have an appointment with my psychiatrist about my meds at 10 and I get to tell her the good news but I’m dead tired!! Can’t decided if I should nap or power thru. At least there was no cravings!!

Thank you! It went really well and they definitely showed me that I do have an amazing support system. Part of me also feels like I don’t deserve it. How nice everyone’s been and all that…

Day 4 of sobriety for the first time in 19 years. I have pretty much locked myself down in the house for a couple weeks. Will go back to work on the 1st. Doing my 90 meetings in 90 days. I had 16 days clean after detox as I was at an inpatient center. Slipped up when I got discharged but reevaluated, didn’t let it Jumpstart the cycle. Got into a meeting, called some friends in the program and told them what happened. Now I’m back on day 4 of sobriety. 1/4 of the way back to where I was. Staying strong. Glad to be here. :ok_hand:

*Day35
Woke up at 530am today. Did a 20 min meditation while absorbing the moonlight. Its another beautiful day to be clean and sober. Got a busy Monday ahead of me. Zoom prayer group, some errands (mailing stuff and phone calls) including shopping for hubby for dental procedure tmrw, planning for my 24 hour spiritual fast this week, cleaning and usual organizing of the apartment, doing my nails, and starting another dreamctacher for a friend back home. Maybe some exercise also (we will see). Feeling good! Hoping everyone has an addiction free day!

Checking in today. A little over 11 years. I’ve been actively participating in my recovery for the last 5 days. I’ve been doing online meetings. I have the concussion from falling down and hitting my head the other day. I haven’t felt quite right since so I figured I’m going to get back in the program.

Checking in on day 317. Spending today at Ft. Knox, Kentucky clearing out of the US Army. It’s a bittersweet experience hanging up the uniform after 20 years of service. I’ll miss it but I’m also looking forward to the freedom to pick up and move whenever we choose. As I leave older and healthy, I cant help but feel grateful to be successfully departing from a profession in which all too often young men die. It’s a great day to be above ground and sober.
