Crocheters, Knitters, Crafters, and the like 2020 to present

It may sound weird but knitting is one of my triggers. My friend first taught me about 5 years ago and we popped open a bottle of wine and started knitting, and that turned into a habit. I used to also join knitting and drinking meetup groups and spent most of my time drinking and not knitting. I have baskets full of yarn that either scared or unmotivated to touch cause it makes me want to cuddle up with red wine and “knit”. I need to come up with a new image of knitting - maybe hot chocolate and candles, or something like that!

It doesn’t sound weird at all. I have the same connotation of playing cards or cribbage or Yahtzee and blowing lines all night, so I totally understand. Same with some music and drinking. It is good you are aware of it.

Beautiful  I tried to knit a scarf once in my life. When my grandmother tried to teach me. It ended with a pink Barbie scarf I gave to my sister who loved playing with Barbie. I wish I had the skill though. My sister in law can knit amazing things.

I am absolutely interested! I started off knitting years ago, but always stressed about my tension and it made me crazy. I’d cry. I love the knit look, but it made me crazy. So one day in my knitting group, I asked a lady to teach me to crochet. Been doing not ever since! It comes natural to me and it’s fun. I don’t grit my teeth and swear. I make things and love them. And now, it’s becoming a creative outlet to keep me busy. I’m working on dish scrubbies right now. PXL_20201219_053224289|375x500

Gorgeous! Big projects take a long time even if you work on it for a few hours a day. Then there is always the person who asks you to make them ‘just a blanket’ then get all offended when you ask for the money for the yarn. If it’s not someone close to me I will also charge.for labor. 100% of the yarn and 50% labor up front. That usually makes them go away. I know my worth, they don’t. Do you ever get requests like that? I love how folks think we do this not only for free but pay for yarn too! Anyway, that is such a pretty blanket. Will that be used as a bed spread? It would really look pretty.

Is anyone good at sewing clothes and stuff? I don’t have a sewing machine, I sold mine because I can’t sew. But I’m thinking about learning for real. I really want to be able to sew my own old western dresses. Any good advice on where to actually start? To be honest I can barely attach a button by hand and make it look good. But I’m great at embroidery.

Thanks. She sleeps with it every night. Amongst a bunch of other blankets. It drapes so nice because it’s pretty heavy cotton. I’m tempted to make a dress. Maybe even my wedding dress! We’ve been engaged for 8 years. Haha. People are funny. Once they know you can make stuff they come up with all kinds of ideas what they want. My time is valuable. I have to be inspired or it just won’t get done.

I definitely have to be in the mood to do it or I just can’t concentrate

I’m knitting one! I’m so sick of working on it, lol! Just want to get it finished already! Do you have a pic of the sweater you’re working on?

Here’s my WIP…a slouchy sweatshirt-fit sweater knit with two yarns held together, one of which is kid mohair, which I will NEVER work with again! LOL :joy: There is blue fuzz everywhere! It is very soft, and I do love the colors, but, sheesh. Can’t wait to wrap this project up.
Here you go @M-be-free49!

I am still working on my first project. It started as a scarf and has morphed into a blanket for our kitty to lay on. It has lots of holes, and I picked up a lot of stitches in the middle somehow!! I am enjoying the process tho.

The process is often everything I am looking for! So meditative, for me. I love the colors, and glad you’ve got an outlet there!

I just decided to learn crochet. I had tried knitting before but it was too hard for me to fix mistakes so I would just pull it all out and start over!! So far I like crochet better.

But I really only know the basics. I’m hoping to learn enough to make little figurines or maybe a nice afghan. (I saw an ad for an Afghan club…do a square a month…I might try that when I’ve learned a few more stitch types).

Oh wow - it’s beautiful! I am gleefully imagining you knitting in your zen den, the clickety clack of needles regulating all of our breathing, loosening my jaw muscles, calming all of our senses… :relaxed:
You knitting this sweater has that effect on me!
Hard to blame the blue fuzz on shedding dogs, but hey - it made me lol! :orange_heart:

Ha! Right?! I wish…if anything this damned blue stuff makes me feel less stressed about dog fur. I got some fuzz in my eye once and it was brutal to fish out. I’m wondering whether I can use the dog brush on this thing when I’m finished with it…

But you’re absolutely right about knitting being relaxing. Add a cup of tea, some chill 70s rock and my electric throw and it’s pretty much my idea of heaven.
