As for a favorite of mine I will go with “It’s Called: Freefall” by Rainbow Kitten Surprise from their How to: Friend, Love, Freefall album. I love the way this song makes me feel!
Music is one of the most important things in my life and probably my first memory. I remember being probably 6 years old and hearing bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Blind melon , Green Day, and especially all of the classic rock bands from the 60s, and 70s on MTV and Pop up video on vh1. I’m 37 years old and it almost feels like for every year of my life there is a band or album I was listening to the most that year and can almost remember them all..
Anyway here are some of my favorites
Cage the Elephant
Green Day
Penny wise
NOFX
Modest Mouse
The Strokes
Sound Garden
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Tame Impala
Mac Demarco
Sublime
Jimi Hendrix
CCR
The Police
Black Sabbath
Motörhead
Cursive
Alkaline Trio
Motion city soundtrack
Blink 182
Sum 41
Kendrick Lamar
Eminem
J Cole
Tupac
Mac Miller
The Black Keys
Elliott Smith
Alanis Morissette
Lauryn Hill
Amy Winehouse
Billy Strings
Pantera
David Bowie
I’m forgetting so much but this is just off the top of my head..
I like Rock, Rap, Country , Indie , Blues, Blue grass, Metal , Hard rock, punk, pop punk
As long as the artist has something to say and the music is original and I feel something from it.. That the band or artist seems to care about what they are recording or playing.. These are bands or artists that would probably still be obsessed and playing or recording even if they didn’t make money or be famous…
Hell yeah thank you for all the recommendations! I’m a big fan of some of those as well like Green Day, Tame Impala, The Police, Blink 182, Kendrick Lamar, The Black Keys, and David Bowie! I’ll definitely look into some of the other ones I’ve never heard of before!
Music is a great healthy escape for me in my sobriety! Being able to tune everything else out for a few minutes can be a really useful tool when combating negative self-talk as well as urges/cravings!
I definitely feel you there! Authentic feeling artists put into their work can be the difference between if I listen to one song or a whole album!
Getting a good feeling from hearing a certain set of notes is special to me and I plan on pursuing new artists to find more of those special combinations.
Thanks again for letting me into your musical world, I appreciate the input and look forward to exploring it!
Today’s new music is a song called “Must Be True” by Bayonne from his Temporary Time album. Love the piano and dreamy sounds of this song and album as a whole!
For my go-to music today I’ll go with “Anvil” by Lorn from his VESSEL album! Deep bass and some amazing synth always seem to do the trick for me! Love the vocals on this track as well!
New music today is thanks to @bluekoolaid_88 and his suggestion of Mac DeMarco! I listened to his Here Comes The Cowboy album and really enjoyed the track “Heart to Heart”! Thanks again Trevor for the suggestion of this groovy ass artist! I love his voice and I enjoy a lot of his lyrics as well!
For one of my favorites today will be the track “New Light” from Gidge’s New Light album! Their use of ethereal sounds sends me to a happy place, a little somber, but still happy!
No problem bro! I will do a more proper reply when I get home cause im at work but the thing with mac is a lot of his earlier music is like indie rock and more recent albums are acoustic.. You might really dig the album called Salad Days. That is the album I first heard when I discovered his music.. anyway man glad you like his music.. If I think of any other artists I will for sure let you know
For today’s new music I found Sea Lemon to be very chill and has been on repeat for a day or two! The song “Silver” from her Diving For A Prize album has a really cool sound, plus I love her voice!
As for something I’ve been listening to for some time I’ve got the single “She Walks the Woods” by Poolside at the Flamingo. Heavy with some awesome breakdowns, been a fan ever since I heard it!
New music today is some more dream pop, a group by the name of Men I Trust is all I’ve listened today. Hard to choose a favorite as most of their work is very enjoyable, but the song “Come Back Down” from their Equus Caballus album has a really dreamy vibe to it!
And for a good ol fall back jam I have the single “Thinking” by Ryan Nevis. Full of unique sounds and some solid base lines, I like to throw this on when I wanna hear some somber wub-wubz
Probably one of my favorite Tame Impala songs.. I know you said you like them but not sure if you heard this one.. ? I honestly like his pop songs just as much as I like the psychedelic rock stuff
I remember when that album came out and I was thinking that Kevin Parker is the man ! Like literally tackles psychedelic rock and then turns around and drops a pop album basically.. And it’s so good! I really admire and look up to artists that do all the instruments and recording themselves. Especially if they take risks and try new genres or genre blending
