Daily pressures counted

Today is day 7. From day 1 I took notice of how many societal pressures of alcohol face me in my every day life. I decided to count the times I saw (memes/ads) or heard alcohol mentioned today.

Social media: 13
Music: 4
Tv: 5
Personal life: 3
Total: 25
TWENTY FIVE TIMES in only 12 hours.

This was regular day with no interaction with people besides my husband and a cashier. I woke up, cleaned my house a bit, went to the grocery store, and cooked dinner.

I find it fascinating and infuriating that it is so normalized in a single, simple day.

Cigarettes are no longer allowed to be advertised because of addiction and health effects. I believe its time to view alcohol the same way.

I realized the same thing when I stopped drinking. Especially on television. Everyone is always pouring themselves a drink or grabbing a beer.

Welcome Amanda. This gets brought up a lot on this forum. Here’s a discussion from about a month ago.

Yeah, unfortunately it’s there and there is not a lot we can do.
So with the serenity prayer in mind we move on and ignore.
Not worth spending energy on it.
