Day 1 and its hard

This is incredibly hard… any words of hope will help

Nothing worthwhile is easily won. Pressure is what creates the diamond. Discomfort is an indicator of which direction we need to grow. Lean into it.

Good luck, and ask for help when you need it. And have several places to seek that support.

It IS hard, I agree. But what is harder is feeling like shit and knowing you are letting your self, family and friends down over and over again. Getting healthy and sober has been a real struggle and a long slog…but getting sober is #1 the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Stay strong and sober today!

Itll never be easy and that’s how it’s supposed to be your challenging yourself to a new life and if it were easy it wouldnt be worth it you can do this and when you get through it you’ll feel so much better because you earned it!!!

Welcome Melissa!
You can do this. One day, or hour, or minute at a time. You will get stronger and better.
There are some excellent ongoing threads here with mediations, affirmations, book suggestions, advice for newly sober. Type anything specific you’re interested in in the search bar :mag:
I highly recommend reading a lot here, and checking in daily on the Daily Check in thread. Doing this has helped me navigate life soberly and with more serenity than I knew I had in me.
We are glad you are here!

You will make it. I was in your place 7 days ago and didn’t think I would make it past day one either but here I am somehow clean for a week now. You can do it! Just imagine that sober peaceful life ahead of you!

First couple of days will be tough because of the physical effects coupled with the mental aspect. Try your best to remove any triggers. I know, easier said than done. I’m 225 days clean and don’t regret it or miss grabbing a drink(s)

Sobriety is the body’s natural state of being.

Intoxication and addiction are diseases that we’ve encountered in our environment.

Being sick is awful and getting well is, indeed, very difficult. But that wellness, that sobriety, that’s where you’re supposed to be. That’s where you’re not sick but rather, your best and strongest self.

Our disease is cunning and the first trick it pulls is convincing us that it’s not a disease. That it’s normal and ok and, if you’re normal, it’ll be fine. Most of society has fallen for this but it is a lie.
It is always self destruction.

Get angry at that lie, right now, today.
Get angry at it and then kick its ass because it has no place in your heart, your mind or your life.

:heartbeat:We’re here for you. Keep leaning into us.:heartbeat:

I was just there 7 days ago  so I totally know what you mean BUT that was the hardest day. Then the next few days was just trying to wrap my head around that I’m never going to drink again and brain storming the rest of my life without alcohol and it was all very positive! I’m on day 7 and my brain is not concumed by thoughts to go grab a drink and justifying my old habits. IT GETS BETTER. You just have to start exercising those habit brain muscles :black_heart:
