I honestly didn’t think that this would be so hard. As far as the people around me know, I only drink on weekends. They don’t know that I have to take 5 shots every night just to sleep. I’m tired of this. I need to get sober. I’m glad that I found this app. Hopefully it keeps me on track.
Welcome Freja
Using this app on the daily and actively participating on here with others was a huge part of my sobriety. Still is today.
It takes more than luck. It took me an army of support and lots and lots of gratitude practice to retrain my mind. When I’m not drinking I got everything to be grateful for. When I’m drinking I got nothing but misery and shame.
Have a good read around. Join in when you’re comfortable.

There’s no luck wishing in recovery, staying sober is hard work, daily. Make a plan, find support (AA, recovery dharma etc,) go to therapy and tackle the issues behind your addiction. One day at a time.
@Freyjasflame welcome to our community! we’re here as long as you allow us to be here to help you. this is a safe place and you’re among other people in recovery. stick with us!
Have you tried quitting before? What was the result?
this is really good advice from @erntedank
If you want me to, I can post the links for AA meeting finders both face to face and virtual zoom meetings. let me know if you want me to get the links posted.
personally i tried a bunch of times on my own and failed, AA is full of peolple like us, and i’m going to have 7 years clean in 4 days. if i can do it, so can you. we can make it together. please don’t attempt this journey on your own.
Welcome. Quitting drinking was the best decision I ever made.
Coming here and using 24/7 support helped me tremendously.
Nothing changes, if nothing changes.
Be the change you want to see in your life, it’s worth it. I promise ![]()
To those excellent guideposts, I would add “Do what is in front of you”. Do the right thing when you choose, and do what you can when you can.
@Freyjasflame
Freyja, welcome to the Talking Sober community. I’m 29 days sober from alcohol and cigarettes.
I was also a heavy drinker, and I lost my job, health, and finances because of my addiction. I realized that I cannot stay sober on my own.
This place is very helpful, with many people from around the world who are just like us—struggling with addiction and recovering one day at a time.
Take it 24 hours at a time and focus on just today.
@Alycia — Nothing changes if nothing changes. So true ![]()
You’ve made a good start by recognising and reaching out here. This is a great space for support and knowing you’re not alone. Try to find what works for you moving forward. Take one day at a time or even one hour hun ![]()
Hi JVKE
I have quit before because I got on meds to help with my borderline personality disorder. But due to financial reasons I could not afford them for quite a few months so I relapsed. But I just got some more meds today so I’m happy that I can start feeling better mentally and hopefully not rely on alcohol anymore
best of luck to you this time.
i still suggest meetings but it’s up to you
hope you are well

So many people here to support you. I found this community 2 weeks ago and it has led me to finally tackle my addictions with the help and support of others. I always tried to do it on my own and it always failed. This time it will work. I don’t like to say “if” I can get clean from alcohol, it’s I will. There is no if. My second meeting for GA tonight ![]()
