Day 12 - check-in and update

Firstly thankyou to the amazing people who took the time out to comment on my first post. It’s great to know I’m not alone out there.

So day 12 of going dry….. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit the thought of having a drink has crossed my mind. I haven’t and I won’t, but even with the naltrexone and the B vitamins I’ve felt fairly shit the last few days.

Sleep has been very hit and miss, melatonin isn’t cutting it. Energy is very low. Plus little things are starting to irritate me. Oh and let’s not forget the headaches that come and go.

But I still see the light at the end of the tunnel….. I just hope its not a freight train.

How is everyone else going?

PS. I’ve been watching our resident mudlarks at work nesting and now caring for their chick’s. Unfortunately I’m not able to upload the pictures yet.

Congratulations on your first 12 days. That’s a huge accomplishment :sunflower:

I also sometimes think about alcohol but in a very different way these days. I’ve come to the conclusion that there is nothing that alcohol wouldn’t make worse.

Just some minutes ago walking home from the gym at 9 am I saw a guy with half a bottle of rosé somehow walking, stopping, walking, alone. Drunk. I am glad I am not this person anymore.

Great work on 12 days sober!!! Yes those thoughts will pop up now and then, but its important that we “play the tape to the end”. Remember the consequences of drinking and our reasons for why we quit in the first place.

Lack of sleep can surely effect every part of a persons day (and imo male recovery alot harder). I had issues with sleep also. So much so that I had to chat with my Dr about it. She prescribed me a sleeping med to help. I take it only when needed but it really helps. Melatonin didnt do a single thing for me.

A night time routine can be helpful also. Just setting up ur environment so that u can get the most out of ur sleep (ex: drinking sleep time tea, turning off any screens like 30min before bed, listening to soft music, dimming the lights, having a warm shower etc). I found that somewhat helpful also.

Glad ur here and on this journey with us!
