It’s been a good day today! feeling a little lonely and in my feels. I feel like I usually use alcohol to kinda just numb myself (never seeking to get drunk or black out) more or less that warm feeling in my stomach and the feeling of courage. Now that I’m free of that feeling I’m starting to feel those lonely feelings again.. pretty much the main reason why I started drinking. I’m strong I told myself I’m staying sober I won’t break but the feeling of doing this kinda with no support does feel weird ![]()
Welcome back.
Congratulations on day 2.
Why no support?
I had to get support. I could not get sober without support.
Idk, I found an AA home group for irl support. And it got the loneliness gone, too! You might find friends in meetings, online or in person. It makes it easier when you have someone you can phone when cravings strike, or just to talk. Congrats on your start, and welcome back. Stay with us!
I’m going onto my 3rd day. In the past I made it to day 60 and beyond but life kind of happened and really set me back. I loved the way I felt when I was sober I was more productive more at one with life I felt like I was a better person going onto day 3 I see the light again I do just need to find the support I know there’s an AA community here in my town I’d love to attend just to get that sense of in real life support from others that struggled too. My number 1 tip is to be sober for yourself, your family, your friends and the ones around you! That’s what I’ve been telling myself for the past couple months it just took a little extra kick in the pants to dig deep and get sober
Thank you! It does definitely make it easier! I had a friend I really confided in and told them about this journey they said “congratulations I’m proud of you” and haven’t heard from them since I know I’m only going onto day 3 but it kinda was a weird feeling to get ghosted after figuring that person would maybe be my go to shoulder to lean on in time of need but you’re absolutely right AA is definitely where I’d get proper support. I love my family they all support my decision but they do also all drink as well so there’s kind of a disconnect there as opposed to someone following the same journey. I do plan on staying here I’m 30 years old know and need to put the pieces back together I miss the person I used to be without alcohol I’ve made horrible decisions and lost a lot of good people and opportunities because I chose alcohol I’m not willing to lose anything else because of it
Gabe hi from Scotland get those big boy pants on and get to a meeting they will help and your will meet like minded people i made friends when i first went some still my friends nearly 40 years on wish you well
Hey Gabe - so great to see you posting again. Well done on your day 2! First we need to remind ourselves of why we started this journey. Our minds will try to fool us into thinking that the drinking helped with our bad feelings, our loneliness or cheered us up. All these are lies. It did none of that. We have to be ok with being uncomfortable.
This place was a blessing for me as I was able to log on day or night and connect with someone. Love that we have members here from all over the world so time does not matter as we have all the time zones covered. I felt at home here with my peers and they helped me not feel alone.
As for the urges, I found ways to keep myself busy in a healthy way. Found reading the threads here really helped me see that I was on the right path. Knowing I was not alone and others were dealing with the same crap really helped.
You have built up good time before so you know you can do it again. Have a good support system and tool kit handy so that you are prepared to deal with all of life’s bs.
Well done on your start - keep it going strong ![]()
@Gabemascorro I’m 34 so not much older than you. I am coming back after a 2 year relapse and just about 2 years sober before that so I was about 30 at the time. Back then I felt I didn’t need meetings despite people discussing how life changing they can be. It honestly takes a lot of courage and strength to walk through the door that first night. My first meeting ever was last week and honestly I couldn’t wait to go again this week. I was out traveling most of the week last week otherwise I would have gone to another one but I also was in a good enough place I felt okay traveling and made it through the trip no problem. What helped was I spent my evenings before bed reading the AA book and it really is life changing.
Everyone’s recovery plan is different but I will say I wish I had tried a meeting sooner. I made some contacts and I really connected with an older guy who I have asked to talk about being my sponsor after the meeting tonight.
Whatever your plan is, work it selfishly because your sobriety is yours and you have to make it a priority to you and the others in your life will benefit from your work.
A quote I keep in my mind “I’m not giving something up I’m making room in my life for the things I don’t want to miss.” When I think this way it helps me let go of the infatuation with alcohol and focus on the person I was meant to be which is not consistent with alcohol in my life. Keep up the good fight my friend ![]()
Jazzy I just wanna say ever since day one you’ve been an awesome person and friend to me! Starting my journey all over again especially with this community my first thought was “I wonder if Jazzy remembers me” in a full world of people recovering you did remember and that really just hit me in the most positive way!(: I’m excited on this I know I can do it and I will always turn to this community when I feel those low moments! I won’t be fooled by those moments though alcohol is an invisible chain that I’m glad I broke now I’m onto day 3 moving onto day 4 and I’m sticking to this! I miss my progress and how I felt in the past I felt free and I’m gonna feel free again ![]()
Awe…that made my heart smile…thank you.
Much love friend. I am grateful that you are back and working in this journey.
Keep connected…we are stronger together

I will join it right now! And my days been good work is a good distraction for me cause I’m surrounded by good friends and laughs but the moment I left and was kinda on my own made me start thinking about all sort of stuff (I kinda wanna talk to a therapist) but I’ve just been thinking a lot about all the things I lost because of alcohol all the friends and relationships I lost because of alcoholism. They may not have known I was struggling but I pushed a lot of people away and may have said the wrong thing or done the wrong thing because I was drinking I think of all the conversations I’ve had and still wish I could be having with a lot of people in the past. I think being sober is just flooding me with emotions. BUT aside from that my day has been good! It was pretty productive, made a good meal the weather was perfect today which made it for a lovely day for a little car ride(:
Hey friend
I totally get how the feelings all come at you when you are alone and have time to think. A therapist would be beneficial. I have found that working the steps of recovery (even if you are not in AA) have been helpful. I have learned to control my anger, make peace with lost relationships and forge new ones that are more beneficial to me and my new path. I am learning to love myself and my sober life. Actually living a life rather than going through the motions.
Keep working on your sobriety and your recovery. It does get easier. Glad you are here connecting … ![]()
Plenty of support right here unfortunately a lot of people only reach out after they have picked up and not before, took me years to figure that one out.
Thank you jazzy you’re such an influence and a positive person I’m happy that you have come a long way and can guide others and help others when lost! I looked into AA today and there is a facility not to far from me! I’m looking into attending next week! Thank you so much today is a good day!(:
@JazzyS controlling anger is key! So many times I decided to drink because on some level I was angry whether I knew it or not. I used to just chalk it up to stress but really I was angry and resentful inside. Once you become aware of the bad decisions that flow from these emotions it’s eye opening! I keep having Star Wars flashbacks to yoda talking about fear and anger and hate ![]()
I appreciate all the support and am always willing to be as supportive right back! I wanna help others as well! And I totally get that! I used to never drink until the “rockstar” lifestyle kinda took over then it all snowballed out of control, was able to take control after the mother of my child and I split up but once later and court things started happening that’s when I started to stress drink and absolutely lost control again and drank absolutely every single day and not just beer it was always mixed drinks or IPA’s and not just one it was multiple and that continued for about almost a year or so I’m just ready to get my life back in check and start the next chapter of my life with everyone here!
