Man, I’m so good & happy about being sober, but something happens around 4- 5p every day.
Last week I got to day 4 & “rewarded” myself. I then “rewarded” myself with bottles & a blackout saturday. The hangover was brutal & was the best incentive to go sober again. Days 1-3 were fine, but today, I was so tempted to just buy a small bottle of wine today. I had to drive around, then review this app. If I stay strong, I will give myself a week sober for Christmas. That’s what I need to remember - feeling proud of myself for staying strong & sober.
Anyways…thanks for this app & real people sharing. It helped me stay sober today.

There are people better experienced than me to advise with meetings and the steps but a small change that may help is to change what you reward yourself. Instead of a small bottle of wine, buy a bottle of bath foam or some candles and reward yourself with some sober wind down time. Grab yourself some simple ingredients and learn how to cook something new. Getting creative again really helped me in the early stages - All the best and keep rockin’!
The first week is always brutal for me at least. Don’t throw in the towel, you’re obviously tired and ready to quit. Every day gets a little better, since you had a bad day today, it’s likely tomorrow will be better. Just keep pushing through it, don’t give in. Keep busy and try to get some excersise as much as possible to get your endorphins going. You got this, keep remembering how you feel the next day when you do drink.
The first week is hard! Especially after a one day binge. You get that just a small one to cool down effect. Hang in there! Glad you found comfort here. There’s always someone here to talk to
I rewarded myself for what I considered important milestones. 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 90days, etc. The reward changed each time. Fancy soda one time, a cheap ring, something Harry Potter related, clothes, new journal, whatever I was wanting at the time. I’m at day 494 and it’s gotten a whole lot easier. You gotta do whatever it takes to get you to the next sober day. You absolutely can do it, just believe in yourself and stay strong. The counter on this app has been a huge motivator for me. I don’t want to give up all the days I’ve accumulated and that alone has saved me from many many relapses.

Try to reward yourself with something else then alcohol. It’s not a reward, it’s putting you down.
Maybe buy yourself a nice book or that sweater you like? Rewarding ourselves with alcohol is our old habit, we have to replace it by new ones.

When i got one week I did just that. I bought myself a jacket that I liked. It was half the price of what I’d been spending on drink, and I felt a buzz
Thanks for the great suggestions! I saved up to read & reply now, the hardest time of the day for me. Gritting my teeth, taking a walk in the park & keeping your good thoughts with me as armor to get through it.
