Day Three! Nervous about working tonight...I'm a Bartender

Yeah nice sounds like you are really serious about this change. All i would say is I could likely be a sober bartender now, but when i first quit there was no way in hell.

Even now, iā€™d still say being offered a shot every night after work would be a risk too big for me. Mainly because if anything bad ever happened I donā€™t know what i would do. Itā€™s easier to be a great sober person when life is stable, but when shit hits the fan is another level of commitment.

Thank you! Navigating new waters here and appreciate all of the help, advice and encouragement! I will definitely be joining Benā€™s Friends. What a blessing :raised_hands:

Milk and cookies ā€“ now we are talking  So grateful that you made it through your first shift. Hope that they do get easier to navigate as you build up your sobriety muscles. Glad that you are close to your co-workers and hopefully they can be supportive of your choice.

Remember - we are always here for you as well. You can most definitely keep adding tools to your sobriety toolbox (from your support groups / this community ā€¦etc) and kick this addictions ass!

Celebrate your success @NicolaCM. Itā€™s not easy being surrounded by alcohol and staying sober. I donā€™t think I could do it. Stay strong and Check in here often. Itā€™s very helpful.

Congratulations for making it through your shift! The commitment is to yourself not to drink. You honored that commitment to yourself. I didnā€™t read your other replies I just read what you wrote. You donā€™t have to make excuses to people on why you want to not drink. ā€œI donā€™t want to drinkā€ ā€œI no longer drinkā€
ā€œ I have chosen not to drinkā€
ā€œDrinking sucks for meā€
All those are good reasons not to drink.
As you said if you need to get a new job then you need to get a new job. Most would say that it would be nearly impossible for you to continue being a bartender while youā€™re at the beginning of your sobriety. Only you know if you are up to that challenge on top of staying sober.
Congratulations for making it through that one night I hope that you realize what a good thing you have done for yourself by choosing to stay sober. Best of wishes for it.
