I have been trying to quit gambling for a while and I think I was up to 40 days at one point…. however last night I completely relapsed. I got some money for Christmas and I tried so hard to stop myself from using it to gamble but I did and now I have nothing left. I’m a student and don’t have a job so I have no formal income.
I really need some advice on how to quit properly. I have limits on all my accounts but there’s always another gambling website when I’ve maxed out….I think I just need to hear from some people who understand what I’m going through and won’t judge. No one in my life knows about my addiction because I’m too embarrassed to tell them.
Welcome to the forum!! I just wanted to pop onto ur thread to say hi. I dont experience the same addiction as urself (mine is to drugs and alcohol), but there are many others on here that do! They may have some suggestions to help This forum has been a huge part of my recovery. I hope its helpful for u too!
Thank you so much. I’ve been reading through the forum all afternoon. It’s so sad that so many people are experiencing this but also weirdly comforting in the sense that we are not alone
For me, it’s helpful to stay connected with people here in this Forum. This thread is Great to check in daily (or regularly): Checking in daily to maintain focus #82
Welcome. My addiction is porn/self gratification, so we’re not in the same boat, aside from having an addiction that we’re trying to beat. There is plenty of help here, though. Don’t beat yourself up too much (it doesn’t do any good). And know that a SLIP is just a Short Lapse In Progress. Take step back. Shake it off. And move forward again.
Hi there, I am not sure if youre willing but meetings are whats helped me stay clean. Here is a link to GA which is a program specific to gamblers, I attend NA. I am sure you will hear some version of your story over and over again if you give it a chance. Identifying with other addicts was the main reason I kept going back to meetings at the begining. It made me feel less insane and understood on a much deeper level than anyone in my life had ever understood me. Check out this link, you can log into one right from your phone if anytime of day.
