Today me and my husband are going to be decorating our Christmas tree. For as long as I can remember this event for me has always involed egg nog with spiced rum AND the Dolly Parton - Kenny Rogers Christmas album. When I was a teenager my mom would put out a punch bowl with egg nog and when my dad wasn’t looking she’d pour in rum. (He didn’t like egg nog or anyone drinking) So I’m sort of dreading having to decorate this tree without rum but I know I can do it. I almost feel a little sad that I won’t be partaking in a long running “tradition”. I believe the holidays are going to be hard to not drink during but I can not have a single drink.

Eventually with patience and perseverance all these things that once included drinking become the new normal when done in sobriety

Christmas traditions can have a deep impact for sure. Maybe it’s possible for you to create a new tradition to replace the egg nog and rum? And a different set of music even? Just a thought.

It’s perfectly possible to be sober and enjoying christmas. start new traditions, try something you always wanted to do on christmas!
