So, I’m less than a week into my sobriety (alcohol) and I’m noticing that I only ever crave (any time of the day) a drink in the evenings, after work. I noticed the other day, that in lieu of drinking, I had a bowl of tortilla chips. I thought my blood sugar was down and after the chips (carbs) I immediately lost the urge. Does anyone else notice this? It’s happened twice this week. I’m pretty sure my urgings have to do with flooding my system with carbs. Possible?
Hey I think you are on to something, I have found that I usually crave sweet drinks like sweet tea or diet coke (more sugar cravings for me) however sometimes I do crave chips and salty things. I was told that when a person drinks a large amount they can crave various things over the next few days due to the body not being well nourished, and I am sure blood sugar levels and glucose levels would be a factor in that. I have on occasion had junk food in lieu of alcohol. I really want to start eating more healthy stuff though as alcohol really screws with your body’s nutrition…
Thanks Oz–my pattern has always been to drink heavily at night, and then immediately follow it up with peanut butter and honey, usually very sweet things. I wonder now that I’m not drinking if I’m somehow trying to continue those patterns. Much less destructive, regardless! Thanks for the reply.
I know what you mean @Bradford I smoke cigarettes atm which helps, not that I condone anyone to take it up. However it is a lot better than drinking…
