Does anyone recommend a pet for focus?

Just wondering if anyone would recommend getting a pet to help focus and have something that depends on you?? Something to wake up for and to get me out of the house. My partner works night shifts so am alone alot on winter nights and easily can slip back into numbing the boredom.

Very true. Better establish my sobriety first. Most of the time struggle to look after myself let alone a puppy.
Might be a distraction rather than focus. Thank you for the advice. Better wait until I am stronger.:slightly_smiling_face:

We have rabbits and guinea pigs. They are pretty low maintenence and love to cuddle! We have a New Zealand Red rabbit and she is perfect!

I agree I did the same thing when I was drinking heavily and trying to get sober. I wasnt very responsible or reliable and could have done a better job. I agree with you on wanting a distraction though… Do you have any hobbies or things you like to do on your free time?I have to stay busy because its always that sense of boredom that looms the evil back to you…Hey we are always here when you get bored, ill chat with you and we can keep each other busy lol Your doing great though! Do you live to read? movies? art? exercise?

Yeah after the holidays I am getting back in the gym, I will read more when my head feels less fuzzy I feel like am in a bubble still. I will prob take a couple more days of being g sober to get myself fully functional again. My head still hurts n have body aches. Kinda suffering from anxiety as well going out for a meal tomorrow with my partners family who all drink heavily and as they know only that side of me they will expect me to. I have work the next day so am going to drive so I don’t drink!! But so nervous! Just want my body to feel like my own again. Also flushing hot and cold not fun!! Wish I could be on like 2weeks already!! How was the meeting??

Oh yea I definitely feel you still not feeling completely yourself. I was just saying that earlier that its so hard in the beginning because it feels like time is moving sooooo slow. I wish we were both already on day 14+ I have just trying to be positive and think of constructive tday. I have tomorrow off so I have to make sure I stay busy throughout the day and dont let my mind wander or falter. Well get there soon enough, the beginning is definitely the hardest part… No meeting yet still have a little more time its not until 830. i hope it goes well though…

Day 4 yay!! Having a family dinner tonight with my mother in law who loves a drink but I am taking soda water!! She won’t break me!! Allen carrs book arrived today thanks for the recommendation @Tim looking forward to reading it and getting life on track.
Feeling rough though still feel cold and shakey n hot n feverish hope my headache passes soon!!
It’s tough but me n the boyfriend are looking forward to a quiet new year n spending non hungover time together. He is now supporting me giving me non alcoholic wine instead so until people get used to the idea I don’t drink I don’t have the awkward questions. Little steps should equal giants leaps!!

Adopted a young tom cat when me and hubby got clean from drugs. The cat was undesexed, covered in fleas, skinny and scared of people. And through helping this cat we helped ourselves.
This funny ginger boy has shown us that animals sense so much more than we give them credit for. Staying by our side when times were tough and showing us how to learn new ways of doing things.
Our new cat motivated us and gave us a good distraction from our own negative thoughts. Also helped us learn to laugh again since we lost our human kids almost a year ago.
Sometimes pets find ways into our hearts and warm them again. Not for everyone but definately works for some of us.

Fish. My aunt had severe migraines, when she bought an aquarium they somehow went away or lessened. Maybe it will help? I know focus and migraines are two different things but yeah.
