English spelling & language thread

Kind of what irony is, at least how I see it.

I can’t do that either. Oh well, I’d be lawning the mown. I got ridiculed somewhere for hoovering instead of vacuuming. So I’m sticking to that and to cutting grass :smiley:

Technically it’s not. Although a lot of people do use it that way.

Having a song about irony with very few examples of irony in it, is actually kind of ironic!

Though and through

Dose and lose (and yup, a difference between lose/loser and loose/looser)

So yeah, I used to tutor/teach ESL, and English DOES NOT play fair. If I can understand what someone’s trying to communicate? Good by me. :wink:

Just to confuse things,
Stew - eat it or think about it for a while
Mine - own it or dig it
fire - Burns or projectile or lose job
Throw - put it over a chair or toss away
Gay - Happy or bi sexual
lean - no fat or to rest apon
I could be here all night but I have a bed to go to - bed - to sleep or for flowers or :man_shrugging::woozy_face:…
