FB just tried to make me consume porn

So… Do you think FB can actually pick up that your quitting porn? Cuz lately I’m targeted for anime porn under the cover of regular anime.
WTF?!

I find when we are quitting something it pops up EVERYWHERE.
I recently stopped drinking and now it feels like the only ads are see are for booze

I see what you’re saying but this was snicky AF.
Booze is straight forward, no one is giving you a sip of soda and half way in says “surprise asshole this is actually scotch”.

I can assure you that quitting alcohol is not straight forward. if I saw people drinking in a movie or an ad for lager on TV whilst in early recovery this was alcohol porn to me, I would immediately either get upset or reach for a bottle and act out. And it wouldn’t just be a cartoon it would be real people drinking.

BTW Facebook knows everything you do and say, that’s no conspiracy that’s just what technology does these days. All those things you search on the Internet and all those cookies you allow bc you can’t be bothered to see what they are even asking are basically taking you information and passing it around. If I was to speak to my partner about buying a TV I can promise you within 24 hours I’ll be getting sent TV ads. Now funnily enough all I get on Facebook is viagra ads so I don’t know what the fuck I’ve done or said to deserve that, I need to have a word with the Mrs :joy:

Bottom line for me is this. I can find porn in a lot of places. I don’t have to look far. In fact, it’s going to end up right under my nose a lot

I’ve watched so much porn and P-subs that those kind of vids are going to pop up on my suggested for the next 500 years.

But it’s also true that I’m an adult now. No one makes me look at it. That choice is mine.

When I got sober, I deleted FB…best decision ever. I was pretty much just as addicted to it as alcohol…and did it “trigger” me. I need away from it to learn to live with my alcoholism.

Same here. I got rid of all social media and that reduced my anxiety almost as much as cutting out alcohol. I know this isn’t a thread about alcohol addiction but I think it’s still relevant just as a good example of how much of stress social media can cause. Especially if we’re talking about porn and promiscuity being a trigger. That’s everywhere these days unfortunately.

I never realized how much anxiety and distress social media and the constant bombardment of news & info caused until I deleted everything. Now talking sober is the only online “social media” I have, if you want to call it that.

I think you’re right.
It makes me sad though…
It’s just an everlasting list if things to quit.

I thought the same thing at first but I figured I would give it a try. Then I realized it’s not “quitting”, you’re just removing the toxic things from your life.

You’re not actually quitting anything by deleting social media and in reality it will let you enjoy more things in life and give you opportunities to do a lot more as well. It was like taking a massive breath of fresh air for me.

The first time I went to AA I had adds popping up for liquor all over the place!!! It’s scary: they track even places you have been.

I’ve logged out. Gives me another level of separation between me and FB. Let’s test this.

Quitting social media for me is right up there with quitting heroin.

Delete your Facebook. You don’t need it. No one does
