First time speaking out and a tough New Years

This is my first post in this group/app
I have recently started some group therapy and counciling, which i never realized the importance, or how much it can help.
I’m 45 days COMPLETELY sober and substance free… except my caffeine
This is my first sober New Years Eve in 20+ years
One my hardest days in my 35 day journey
I think I have resorted to drugs and alcohol in the past as a band aid, or to help get through something negative…
But i think alot of us turn to drugs and alcohol for positive times…
"Yeah its Friday "
" its my birthday’
“Its new years”
What coping strategies do you have? I lack copimg strategies BIG TIME
Any help or suggestions is appreciated

In my early recovery, they told me to just take it one day at a time. I do use the AA program. Some people here use Smart Recovery.
I do have a sponsor and that helps.
Also, I got rid of all the alcohol in my place and loaded up on pop and coffee.
I don’t know if that’s helpful. :unicorn:

Happy New Year and congratulations on your 45 days clean and sober LuckyLuke
Working a gratitude list right here every morning has retrained my brain. Daily Gratitude, The Air Of Recovery #2 - #2206 by Jon_Ian
I never start a day without it. And it also helps to read what others are grateful for. I got so much to be grateful for when I’m sober. Great bunch on that thread. Lights are always on. There’s always room for more.

Welcome to the sober party/community @LuckyLuke13

This is my first sober new years in 20years too! I will have 8 months sober at 2am. Alot of that time is because of this community and aa. So happy you are here!

Happy New Year & great job on 45 days :purple_heart:! I’m 53, and this is my first sober New Year since I was a teenager. Kinda weird, but in a very nice way.
