First time typing on this blog, almost 90 days sober

I just read the one persons, message where he said he need help to stay sober. One thing I learned over the time is, it only work if you doing it for yourself. I have been told by my husband I should quit drinking if I want to make this marriage work. I quit drinking for a month or two, restore the peace in the house and then slowly start drinking again. First time I quit not because I got to drunk or coursed a fight, but purely because I felt its time. And now he is the one asking, when are you having a drink again. Since I stop drinking, I lost like 10kg, while putting on big muscles, my commission for the last 2 months doubled. Mondays are only Mondays and not blue Mondays anymore. And strangely enough after 3 years of being married, 8 years together, I think I’m ready to be single again. I need to surround myself with non drinkers and not people who doesn’t have to stop drinking causse they don’t have a drinking problem, even if they had to have a drink every day. I think I need some space to grow, find the person I was supposed to be all this time. I’m 50 years old, time to live my best life. See if there is still time to make some money for retirement.

Glad you are sharing. Ive never heard of mondays called blue mondays after a weekend of drinking but i can so relate. Congrats on almost 90 days of sobriety!!

Getting sober is an adjustment not only for the drinker but also the family. My unsolicited advice is to wait a few months before making lifechanging decisions. Your brain is still detoxing and the chemicals are balancing.

Im glad you posted and im glad you are here

I think sobriety alienates you from other people. It makes you so different in a great way that being with a drinker becomes estranged because they are the thing you have left. I was 3 years sober by 50 and hubby a big drinker. Divorced him for loads of reasons he kept drinking. Now 7 years later he’s very ill and single. I remarried a lovely man but he drinks so I started again. Hhmm now I’m getting sober again because I recognise the roller coaster unfortunately I think he’ll never quit either so be it. I’m seeking ways to do things with friends when opportunities arise to notbe on his roller coaster.
