First True Challenge - Tonight is going to be HARD

So … I’ve had 5 full days of sobriety, and besides some obvious mood swings and irritability, the actual NOT drinking alcohol hasn’t been that bad yet.

HOWEVER … weekends are notoriously my worse days, and this is my first weekend.

I knew that going in, so no big deal.

HOWEVER.

My wife text me at like 3:00pm. today asking if she could go out with a friend girl to the movies. I said yes, because either of us hanging out with friends has never been a big deal.

It JUST hit me though that it’s going to be FRIDAY night. And I’m going to be ALL ALONE without wife for THREE or FOUR hours.

If my actions hadn’t already drove home that I’m an alcoholic, the now irresistible urge to go to our corner store and buy a six pack is now a pretty enlightening experience.

This is truly my first Hard Day. Really struggling now guys - would appreciate some positive vibes my way.

You can do it! Grab a favorite tea or juice and a movie or two and some food and plop yourself on the couch and resolve to not move until your wife gets home. Or, if you’re like me, sometimes I will busy myself and keep moving and doing things (cleaning, reorganizing, etc) until she comes back. Stay strong my friend! You’ve got this

I’m at home all alone…no hubby, no kids. Liquor cabinet Is in the living room so I’m in my bedroom with a book. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Good luck, I know you can do it.

Thanks y’all.

Would it be terrible if I went out and bought some cream soda or something and went through my “routine” (I usually pour my beer into one of my favorite glasses and drink it from there).

Or is that crutch going to hold me back in the longer run?

I think it’s okay. I drank sparkling apple juice in a wine glass on my early days.

Then I’m literally out the door right now. Man this is humbling.

Wow. I feel tons better.

Had to get a Pepsi because they didn’t have cream soda (which has more of a beer consistency in my opinion). ahem Also got a mocha latte too.

Anyhow, it all feels like empty calories and not really that satisfying, but the urge to drink has subsided so it did its job.

Man… went from thinking I have a drinking problem but really was okay at the core to being a grown ass man rushing to a forum because not buying a six pack seemed like way too impossible a task.

Consider me #humbled

Great substitute! I get quick cravings too and it always helped to do my routine except buy sparkling cider or soda water instead then come home and use my favorite wine glass. The physical routine can trick your brain enough to end the craving! Sober tonight after my substitue drink and going to get frozen yogurt with my husband and kids after dinner!

@Jdubs being alone is one of my triggers too. My husband is a tax auditor and goes to different businesses in several different counties. When I knew he was going to be out of the house I drank, and drank and drank. Being alone is tough. Now when I’m in this situation I go to a meeting or find ways to stay out of the house.
