20,000 steps a day, the gym, biking everywhere, I’m trying to eat more real food on a regular. Less snacks and empty calories

Roasted chicken, broccoli with cheese, garlic & sour cream mash and mixed veg.

And a picture of the chicken before I mangled it trying to carve it .

You’re doing good there. I’m sure it’s not easy to want to cook real food all the time when it’s just you there. I know I’m more likely to just snack if the kids are elsewhere at dinner time

Yeah typically I take the easy way out and get takeout but I worked my way up to a crockpot and then recently just been making basic things. I’ve never ate enough calories to compensate for how active I am but my trainer at the gym has been motivating me to eat more Whole Foods. And he also suggested making larger portions and putting leftovers in containers in my fridge. It’s like anything else it just takes practice and persistence.

I said previously that I never really cooked except mainly rice and eggs but I forgot I also have cooked a lot of different pastas in the past because it’s cheap. Now I just have to learn how to cook meats Other than using a crockpot

You’ll probably also save a fair bit of money making your own food if you’ve been eating a lot of takeout.

Definitely! I spend at least 100 to 150 a week on Getting to go orders at restaurants. That’s not counting regular grocery store trips

I can imagine. I can’t go out with my family without spending at least $100 . I mean even a trip to get us all fast food is like $50… it’s insane . So my kids can just suffer and eat my cooking :joy::joy:

Yeah definitely eating out in general is crazy and almost it’s at a point now where it has to be a special occasion. But one thing I’m realizing as far as grocery stores it’s actually not that expensive to eat healthy real food. Like I don’t know if it’s like this where you live but in Florida in the United States the perimeter of the store like the circle going around the store is all of the healthy real food that actually is not that much money like meat, fruit, vegetables.. The middle of the store where the isles are is everything that’s expensive and that is all the prepackaged stuff and junk food. I’ve been learning that eating regular food is not that expensive if your smart About the Meals . What eats up the money is all the stuff that is bad for me . Maybe that’s just my perspective and this might be different in other states and countries

I don’t know if grocery stores are set up like this in other places or countries but in most of the places I’ve been to in Florida in a few other states I noticed this perimeter thing of healthy food and everything in the middle is bad and costly.

Groceries are VERY expensive in my part of Canada these days but real food is ALWAYS cheaper. For extra savings I just try to plan what we eat based a bit on what’s on sale.
