American Chop Suey
Not sure where they got that name for this. Any takers.
One pot American Chop
We called it Chinese Pie.
We had it on the school lunches every other week with the American Chop Suey.
Here you go! I am sure you wonât be surprised but itâs not the first or only thing I have ever found about it.

So whatâs with the âchop sueyâ in American Chop Suey? According to The Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink , âchop sueyâ is a culinary phrase with Chinese origins, and dates back (in print, at least) to the late 1800âs. Itâs thought to be a transcription of âtsa tsui,â which is Mandarin for âa little of this and that.â In time, âchop sueyâ became a dish containing a loose assortment of bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, celery, soy sauce, and either pork or chicken, which went on to become one of those Chinese-American dishes popular in Chinese restaurants stateside, but likely unfamiliar to a native Chinese diner. Later, another dish of muddled, cobbled ingredients and origins (this time Italian-American) would also carry the âchop sueyâ name.
I love it all ways, Iâm cottage/shepherds pielyamorous.
Make anything however you like, lad.
We will fucking moan anyway.
Finally can upload again. 3 meals i had yesterday. Stewed beef noodles, Pad Thai, and spicy pork larb salad. No more Airbnbs and cooking in the near future. Its all just eating out at restaraunts now
Iâve seen this a few times on menus in SE Asia, I havenât ever ordered it. American fried rice is on alot of menus as well, never really knew what it was.
Arugula, baby kale, egg whites, cranberry pear balsamic.
I ate lots of canned chop suey growing up, served over the canned crisp noodles.
Now I know exactly what it was.
Also ate a lot of canned ravioli.
Canned black bean soup. Although had fresh sour cream and a fresh lemon slice over that.
Looks really delicious. I know what you mean about eating a lot of things in cans when youâre younger and then when you grow up you want to have things fresh. I will say one thing that for me personally canned ravioli never gets old. But to be honest anytime I see canned ravioli now or hear about it I think of Ricky from trailer Park boys. Iâm not sure if you seen the comedy show but thereâs an episode where he eats like nine cans of ravioli that arenât his. Such a classic Ricky move
â I mean nobody wants to admit they ate 9 cans of ravioli.â
Ricky LaFleur
I ate lots of canned ravioli and it was really delicious. I have some in my emergency rations here. Lycopene from the tomato sauce is healthy so it also has that going for it.
I never heard of who youâre talking about, but itâs funny!!
Peach
@Dazercat
Iâve read about Lycopene!! They somehow took that out of tomatoes I guess and itâs in certain medicationâs for Medical purposes obviously. I read about it but I didnât retain the information lol.
Trailer park boys is a independent comedy show about basically a few knuckleheads that live in a trailer park in Canada and do not make the greatest choices on a daily basis. It may be triggering for somebody in early recovery but if youâre strong in your recovery your probably able to watch. Ricky is the Main character and I think he is one of the most funniest fictional characters in TV history. The character he plays is very uneducated In the traditional sense but at the same time extremely intelligent in his own way. Throughout the whole entire show he says phrases or words the wrong way but the way he says it is hilarious. There is countless videos on YouTube where they just have 20 or 30 minutes of him saying things wrong. Ricky isms..The episode where he eats the nine cans of ravioli is pretty funny and he finally admits that he took the ravioli cans from his friend. He says that.. nobody wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli and that he feels ashamed but the first Can doesnât count.. Paraphrasing but thatâs pretty much the quote. There is also an episode where he says jalapeño a really different and weird way and doesnât understand the certain letter is silent and when his friend goes to the store to get jalapeño chips he doesnât understand what his friend is saying but he says it his way and basically says I donât know what kind of chips youâre getting but I want jalapano chips lol .. I donât know sorry for the trailer park boys rant. I think the show is comedy genius and itâs written really well but other people might think itâs absolutely garbage show. Either way thanks for reminding me about that show because of the ravioli. Iâm honestly probably going to see what streaming service itâs on and start watching it from the beginning.
Lycopene is very much out there in real tomatoes and other fruit and vegetables. It is a powerful antioxidant. They used to say and still might that cooked tomato products were especially high in absorbable lycopene.
Think ketchup. Although ketchup oftentimes has a lot of sugar in it. Think tomato sauce or tomato paste. In times past I thought if I had a tablespoon of one or the other every day, I would be doing a good thing for myself.
Enjoy watching your shows! You could always eat a can of tomato paste instead of chips!! Tomato paste is a little bitty can usually.
I love canned ravioli. Whenever I go back home Its one of the first things I eat, also Kraft mac and cheese and a jar of pickles. And eventually a huge ribeye steak. Things that are basically non existant while im travelling unless I pay a ridiculous price for it. I could probably eat 4 cans of chef boyardee ravioli if they were in front of me right now
That totally makes sense. You never realize the simple foods you will miss until you donât have them. I guess one of my guilty pleasures is also the Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs. Have you ever had that can Version of Chef Boyardee?
