Played very little music lately, going to make up for it tonight. Right now playing some Bill Withers. Who just died. RIP Bill. Such a great wholesome personality. Always loved the guy and his music. Donn’t want to be a party pooper, just want to celebrate his life and music.

A couple of my Amateur Radio buddies and I do a Friday evening check in for about 10-15 minutes, hitting the local repeater. Idea is to keep things exercised just in case of emergency, and other modes of communication down or degraded. Make sure we can run a proper net. Sometimes we skip the repeater, and talk station to station, but we have to do a voice relay, since I (a) can reach station (b), but not station ©. (B) can reach ©, and will relay any message I have for ©. Takes practice, learning to keep messages brief, because (b) has to relay everything, verbally.

It’s a dying art and needs fresh blood. I’ve had my license since 1992. Never been easier to get started though. Here in the US, the got rid of the Morse code requirement to get a basic license. Equipment is cheap and plentiful. My first handheld rig cost me $500 US, used. Now I have two that cost me $50 each, new.
I can say that I am appreciating the ability to reach other people a lot more these days. This summer I hope to build a better antenna and work some long distance comms.

Indeed. Plan on having a tower antenna and running a repeater, plus have some HF world wide stuff. Will have to upgrade my license though.

Feels like it’s been a long day but in a good way. My emotions are all over the place at the moment, right now I am feeling good even though I am waiting in a supermarket queue.
I had hoped that at 6pm on a sunny bank holiday weekend everyone else would be at home getting drunk, but alas not.
